At Rolls-Royce we are proud to be a business that has truly helped to shape the modern world and are committed to always being a force for progress; powering, protecting and connecting people everywhere.

By joining Rolls-Royce, you'll have the opportunity to work on world-class solutions, supported by a culture that believes individuality is our greatest strength, and all perspectives, experiences and backgrounds help us innovate and enable our high-performance culture.

As the Warehouse Operative you will support the efficient operation of the MRO facility by ensuring that parts, materials, tooling and consumables required for rail power pack overhaul, repair and switchboard assembly activities are accurately picked, checked, kitted and delivered to the relevant production work areas.

You will play a key role in maintaining production flow, supporting planned build schedules and ensuring materials are available at the point of use. The role requires a strong focus on accuracy, traceability, stock control, health and safety, and adherence to established business processes.

What you will be doing:

Materials Picking and Kitting

  • Pick and kit components, parts, materials and consumables in accordance with authorised job orders, bills of materials and production requirements.
  • Pick electrical and mechanical components required for switchboard assembly, repair and overhaul activities.
  • Pick and prepare components required for rail power pack overhaul, repair and assembly.
  • Ensure kits are complete, accurate and prepared in line with production schedules and required completion dates.
  • Verify part numbers, descriptions, quantities and identification details against the relevant documentation.
  • Identify and report missing, damaged, incorrect or unavailable components promptly.
  • Prioritise picking activities in line with production requirements and agreed delivery schedules.
  • Deliver completed kits to designated production areas or agreed collection points.

Stock Control and Traceability

  • Maintain accurate records of materials picked, issued, returned and transferred in accordance with site procedures.
  • Ensure components requiring serial numbers, batch numbers or other traceability controls are correctly identified and recorded.
  • Maintain segregation of conforming, non-conforming, quarantined and awaiting-inspection materials where required.
  • Report stock discrepancies, shortages and inventory issues to the Stores Team Leader.
  • Support stocktaking activities and routine inventory checks.
  • Ensure materials are stored, handled and protected in accordance with relevant requirements.

Production and MRO Support

  • Support rail power pack overhaul and switchboard production by ensuring required components and materials are available when needed.
  • Work closely with mechanical and electrical fitters, technicians, supervisors and materials personnel to understand upcoming requirements.
  • Support the identification and resolution of material shortages that could affect production delivery.
  • Prepare kits in the correct sequence to support planned overhaul, assembly and repair activities.
  • Return unused materials to the appropriate storage locations and ensure stock records are updated.
  • Communicate material shortages or discrepancies promptly to minimise disruption to production.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve material availability, reduce waste and enhance operational efficiency.

Health, Safety and Housekeeping

  • Follow all site health, safety, environmental and manual-handling procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment within stores and designated kitting areas.
  • Use appropriate equipment when moving, handling or transporting materials.
  • Ensure components are packaged and protected to prevent damage, contamination or deterioration.
  • Report hazards, incidents, damaged materials and unsafe working practices promptly.
  • Apply 5S principles to maintain an efficient and organised stores environment.

Quality and Compliance

  • Follow applicable work instructions, quality procedures and materials-handling requirements.
  • Ensure only correctly identified and authorised materials are issued to production.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and material traceability throughout the picking and kitting process.
  • Escalate quality concerns, documentation discrepancies and suspected incorrect components.
  • Support audit requirements by maintaining organised storage locations and accurate records.
  • Contribute to a culture of right-first-time delivery and continuous improvement.

Position Qualifications

Essential

  • Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • Ability to follow picking lists, bills of materials and written instructions accurately.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
  • Basic IT skills and the ability to use electronic stock-control systems.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate with production personnel.
  • Commitment to health, safety, quality and housekeeping standards.
  • Willingness to learn and develop knowledge of engineering materials and components.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a stores, warehouse, kitting or materials-handling environment.
  • Experience within an engineering, manufacturing, electrical, rail or MRO environment.
  • Familiarity with electrical switchboard components and mechanical engineering parts.
  • Experience using ERP or stock-management systems.
  • Understanding of component identification, serialisation and material traceability.
  • Experience applying 5S and continuous improvement principles

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
