The posting
Saint Patrick School, a Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8 co-educational Catholic school located in Stoneham, Massachusetts, seeks an enthusiastic, caring, and well-qualified candidate for the position of Kindergarten Teacher.
The Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment that supports the academic, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth of each child. The ideal candidate understands the importance of building a strong foundation for future learning while recognizing that young children learn best through hands-on experiences, purposeful play, direct instruction, conversation, exploration, and meaningful interaction with their teachers and peers.
As a Catholic school, we seek a teacher who will embrace and live the mission of Saint Patrick School and serve as a positive role model for our students. The Kindergarten Teacher will:
Create a warm, structured, joyful, and developmentally appropriate learning environment where children feel known, valued, and supported. Develop and implement engaging, age-appropriate lessons that meet the needs of students with a range of abilities and learning styles. Provide strong foundational instruction in early literacy, including phonemic awareness, phonics, letter recognition, vocabulary, reading, and writing. Provide developmentally appropriate instruction in mathematics, science, social studies, religion, and other curricular areas. Use hands-on learning, manipulatives, books, art, music, movement, purposeful play, conversation, and exploration as essential components of instruction. Prioritize active, hands-on learning over screen-based activities. Technology should be used sparingly, purposefully, and only when it clearly enhances instruction. It should not replace direct instruction, hands-on experiences, books, writing, play, or meaningful interaction between students and teachers. Provide students with opportunities to develop creativity, curiosity, independence, problem-solving skills, and a love of learning. Teach and reinforce classroom routines, expectations, responsibility, cooperation, kindness, and respect for others. Monitor student progress through observation, assessments, classwork, and other developmentally appropriate measures. Maintain accurate student records and communicate regularly with parents regarding student growth and progress. Create lesson plans aligned with Massachusetts standards and the curriculum expectations of the Archdiocese of Boston. Collaborate closely with administration, faculty, support staff, and families to meet the needs of students. Supervise students during recess, lunch, arrival, dismissal, and other school activities as assigned. Participate fully in the life of the school community, including faculty meetings, professional development, school events, liturgies, and other activities.
Catholic Identity and Mission The Kindergarten Teacher is expected to embrace, support, and model the Catholic identity and mission of Saint Patrick School. The teacher should:
Help create a classroom environment rooted in faith, kindness, respect, service, and love of others. Model Christian values through words, actions, relationships, and interactions with students, families, and colleagues. Incorporate prayer and Catholic teachings into the daily life of the classroom. Participate in school Masses, prayer services, religious celebrations, and other faith-based activities. Support the teachings and values of the Catholic Church and the mission of Saint Patrick School. Demonstrate a willingness to live our mission by teaching students to act justly, love and serve one another, and walk humbly with God.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Experience working with young children in a classroom or educational setting. Strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education. Knowledge of early literacy and mathematics instruction. Commitment to hands-on, student-centered learning and the purposeful, limited use of technology. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Collaborative, flexible, and willing to work as part of a team. Commitment to the Catholic identity, values, and mission of Saint Patrick School.
