The posting

We're building the UK's next generation engineering powerhouse, providing critical technology that strengthens national security and resilience.

We specialise in turning advances in sensing, AI, and communications into operational capability for the edge, where connectivity may be degraded or denied. Our work focuses on accelerating the deployment of technology, improving decision-making for frontline teams, and protecting people and critical assets in demanding environments.

Headquartered in Bristol, Rowden employs around 200 people and operates over 20,000 square feet of engineering and manufacturing facilities. We have a growing international footprint and are one of Europe's fastest-growing engineering businesses.

About the role

We are looking for a Presales Engineer / Field Sales Engineer to support the growth of our Sensing and Communications business, with a particular focus on our Sensing & Communications business line product range.

This is a customer-facing, technically focused and field-ready role in one of the fastest-growing areas of our business. You will work across sales, product and engineering, helping customers understand what is possible, translating operational needs into technical requirements, supporting trials and demonstrations, and feeding real-world insight directly into product development.

You will be close to the users, close to the technology and close to the decisions that shape our roadmap. The role offers the opportunity to travel internationally, engage with defence and national security customers and industry partners, and help deliver EW and CEMA capability with meaningful operational value.

Candidates must be eligible for SC clearance.

More information about security clearance is available here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels

Key areas of responsibility

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting sales conversations, technical briefings, solution proposals and customer demonstrations for Rowden’s sensing and communications product portfolio.
  • Working with customers to understand operational requirements, technical constraints and deployment environments.
  • Translating customer needs and field feedback into clear product, engineering and commercial inputs.
  • Deploying to field exercises, trials and demos in the UK and internationally, including supporting system setup, configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Engaging with industry partners on integrations, collaborations and joint project opportunities.
  • Tracking relevant market, technology and customer trends across sensing, communications, tactical networking and electronic warfare.
  • Supporting the commercial team in qualifying opportunities and identifying where Rowden can deliver meaningful value.

This role will involve regular international travel, including Europe and North America.

Key skills, experience and behaviours

We are looking for someone with a strong background in RF, communications, networking, tactical systems or EW. This may come from an engineering, military, technical sales or field application background.

Essential experience and skills include:

  • Strong technical knowledge in RF systems, communications, tactical networking, electronic warfare, spectrum operations, or RF propagation/link budgets.
  • Experience working with defence, national security or other mission-critical customers.
  • Strong understanding of deployed, constrained or contested operating environments.
  • Ability to translate customer problems into clear technical, product and commercial requirements.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence supporting technical sales conversations, demonstrations, briefings and proposals.
  • Practical experience setting up, configuring, testing or troubleshooting technical systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with commercial, engineering, product, delivery and partner teams.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and support field exercises, trials and customer demonstrations.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Military experience in signals, electronic warfare, or CEMA.
  • Experience supporting defence trials, experimentation, exercises, demonstrations or operational deployments, especially with EW/SIGINT systems.
  • Familiarity with electronic support, electronic attack, spectrum monitoring, signature management, jamming or counter-UAS environments.
  • Experience supporting system integration with third-party platforms, sensors, communications systems, or C2/C4ISR environments.

Working at Rowden

We are committed to building a flexible, inclusive, and enabling company. Our aim is to create a diverse team of talented people with unique skills, experience, and backgrounds, so please apply and come as you are!

We also recognise the importance of flexible working and support this wherever we can. We typically operate a flexible, hybrid-working model, with an average 3 days in the office each week (dependent on the role). We welcome the opportunity to discuss flexibility, part-time working requirements and/or workplace adjustments with all our applicants.

Rowden is a Disability Confident Committed company, and we actively encourage people with disabilities and health conditions to apply for our roles. Please let us know your requirements early on so that we can make sure you have everything you need up front to help make the recruitment process and experience as easy as possible.

Finally, if you feel that you don’t meet all the criteria included above but have transferable skills and relevant experience, we’d still love to hear from you!

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
