We are currently connecting with healthcare executives who may be interested in active and upcoming Chief Executive Officer opportunities across Alaska.

These roles may include leadership of:

Critical Access Hospitals Rural Health Clinics Federally Qualified Health Centers Tribal health organizations Regional health corporations Community hospitals and healthcare systems Village-based healthcare programs Long-term care and senior care organizations Integrated regional healthcare networks

This Is More Than an Executive Role

In many Alaska communities, the hospital, clinic, or health organization is one of the most important institutions in the region.

It may be a major employer, a trusted community resource, an emergency lifeline, and the primary connection to care for patients who live hundreds of miles from larger medical centers.

Leading healthcare in Alaska requires more than operational experience.

It requires someone who can build trust, support employees, work closely with boards and Tribal leaders, manage limited resources responsibly, strengthen partnerships, and understand how distance, weather, transportation, housing, workforce shortages, and supply challenges affect every part of the organization.

The strongest CEOs are visible, practical, transparent, financially responsible, and deeply committed to the people and communities they serve.

They understand that rural leadership is personal. Employees, patients, families, board members, community leaders, and partners often know one another, and the CEO's decisions may be felt throughout the entire region.

What You May Lead

Responsibilities will vary by organization and opportunity and may include:

Providing strategic, operational, and financial leadership for the organization

Partnering closely with the governing board, Tribal council, health corporation board, or community leadership

Building trust with employees, medical staff, patients, families, and community partners

Leading long-term planning, organizational growth, and service sustainability

Strengthening access to care across rural, remote, village, island, and frontier communities

Supporting recruitment, retention, workforce development, and leadership succession

Overseeing financial performance, budgets, capital planning, grants, contracts, and revenue-cycle priorities

Helping the organization navigate reimbursement, funding, regulatory, and workforce challenges

Supporting quality, safety, compliance, accreditation, and regulatory readiness

Developing strong relationships with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing leaders, and department directors

Working with Tribal organizations, public agencies, regional partners, schools, emergency services, and community groups

Supporting culturally respectful, community-informed healthcare delivery

Leading through vacancies, transitions, weather events, transportation disruptions, or other operational challenges

Improving communication, accountability, employee engagement, and organizational culture

Supporting infrastructure, housing, technology, telehealth, equipment, and capital needs

Strengthening relationships between village-based care, regional hospitals, and specialty resources

Advocating for the organization and the communities it serves at the regional, state, and federal levels

Ensuring the organization remains responsive, financially sustainable, and connected to its mission

What You Will Bring

Qualifications will vary by opportunity, but organizations may seek:

Progressive executive leadership experience in healthcare

Previous experience as a CEO, administrator, COO, CFO, CNO, executive director, or senior healthcare leader

Strong financial, operational, strategic, and organizational leadership skills

Experience working with boards, governing bodies, Tribal leadership, or public entities

Experience leading rural hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals, FQHCs, Tribal health organizations, regional health systems, long-term care organizations, or community healthcare programs

Knowledge of healthcare finance, reimbursement, compliance, quality, workforce, and regulatory requirements

Experience leading through organizational change, financial pressure, workforce shortages, or operational instability

The ability to build strong relationships across clinical, operational, executive, and community teams

Experience supporting services across multiple facilities or large geographic regions may be valuable

Experience working with Alaska Native communities, Tribal health organizations, Indian Health Service programs, or tribally operated systems may be highly valued for some roles

A leadership style grounded in humility, transparency, accountability, collaboration, and community presence

Relevant education, certifications, and executive experience based on the specific organization and role

The ability to relocate, travel regionally, or work within a rotational structure when required

Types of Opportunities

Opportunities may include:

Permanent Chief Executive Officer positions Interim Chief Executive Officer assignments Hospital Administrator roles Regional healthcare executive positions Tribal health executive leadership Community health center executive leadership Long-term care or senior care executive leadership Temporary-to-permanent opportunities Organizational turnaround or stabilization assignments Multi-site or regional leadership positions Short-term executive support during a transition or vacancy

The schedule, compensation, relocation support, housing, travel requirements, governance structure, organizational priorities, and employment arrangement will be explained before you decide whether to move forward with a specific opportunity.

Why Rural Alaska?

Alaska is unlike anywhere else.

Its healthcare organizations serve communities spread across mountains, forests, tundra, rivers, islands, and thousands of miles of coastline.

Some communities are connected by highways. Others may be reached only by plane, boat, snowmachine, or seasonal transportation.

These distances create real challenges, but they also make strong leadership deeply meaningful.

A thoughtful CEO can help preserve emergency care, strengthen workforce stability, expand access, build partnerships, improve financial sustainability, and protect services that allow patients to remain closer to home.

Leading healthcare in Alaska offers the opportunity to understand a community deeply, work alongside people who care fiercely about their region, and see the direct impact of your decisions.

You may help stabilize a hospital, rebuild trust, strengthen a leadership team, improve employee culture, expand a service, develop housing solutions, secure funding, or create stronger connections across a large region.

The work requires resilience, adaptability, cultural humility, sound judgment, and a genuine commitment to listening before leading.

For the right executive, it is an opportunity to do some of the most meaningful work of a career.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
