At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated per hourly range for this position is $22 - 30 per hour based on experience.
Competitive Weekly Pay Period
The Mechanical Engineer Intern supports the development of new and sustaining products by assisting in design, prototyping, testing, and documentation. The engineer works closely with senior-level engineers to actively learn about products and grow through experience and mentorship.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Product Support: Assist in the design and development of mechanical systems for current and pre-production projects and products. Contribute to product development efforts by supporting prototyping and testing new technologies.
- Simulation & Technical Analysis: Create and modify 3D models, schematic engineering drawings, and utilize CAD software. Apply basic programming and tool usage to support model creation and documentation.
- Design & Documentation: Perform basic engineering calculations and simulations using FEA tools to support design validation and performance analysis. Document findings and analysis. Basic knowledge of GD&T principles and their application to engineering drawings.
- Research & Technology: Participate in building and testing mechanical prototypes. Conduct mechanical, environmental, and vibration performance tests under guidance from senior engineers.
- Continuous Improvement: Learn product functionality and capabilities through hands-on experience and mentorship from senior-level engineers. Support root cause analysis and RMA processing.
- Compliance: Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.
To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:
- In-progress degree program from an accredited university/college program with a concentration in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 1+ years of collegiate education in Mechanical Engineering
- 0-2 Years of experience in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Basic proficiency in CAD and/or similar tools.
- Basic familiarity with engineering software for modeling and simulation.
- Preliminary skills in effective problem-solving and able to communicate across some levels of the organization related to concepts of supply-chain, production, and electronics.
- A basic understanding of various manufacturing technologies and methods, preferably within the electronics manufacturing industry.
- Good interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships built on mutual trust and respect, and foster collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse audience.
- Good communication skills (written, verbal, listening, and presentation), able to partner with and communicate with customers, both technical and non-technical.
- Commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the quality function.
- Support organizational planning through coordinating with internal and external resources, and the ability to balance critical priorities.
- Sound business sense and analytical skills with the ability to use and analyze data to drive informed actions, solve complex problems, and drive learning.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, including the flexibility to work extended hours when necessary.
- Great computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Office applications, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Power BI, or other similar systems. Including great data analysis skills.
MAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Frequently you are required to remain in a stationary position and perform desk-based for 2 hours at a time approximately 5 days per work week.
- Occasionally required to walk moderate distances up to 0.2 mile multiple times a day.
- Occasionally required to use hand-eye coordination to control both hands and arms for a full range of motion to operate equipment/machinery/power tools/office productivity equipment.
- Infrequently ascending or descending ladders/stairs/scaffolding/ramps/poles.
- Occasionally required to observe details at close range, including depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to differentiate between colors.
- Continuously required to talk and hear, or otherwise, in person and by phone/conference calls.
- Infrequently required to travel and work extended hours when necessary.
Environmental Conditions
- Continuously working indoors in an air-conditioned office and manufacturing environment.
- Occasionally exposure to fumes/vapors/dust/gases/odors/mist/toxic chemicals/radiation/vibration/grease/oils/radiation/lasers/other etc.
- Occasionally exposed to low/moderate/high noise levels, including machinery/vehicles/forklifts/office equipment/office traffic, etc.
- Occasionally working around energized equipment with the risk of electrocution/scalding/burns/other etc.
- Infrequently exposure to wet humid/outdoor weather/extreme cold (non-weather)/extreme heat (non-weather) conditions/other conditions.
- Infrequently working with machinery with moving parts/vehicles/forklifts/heavy machinery/sharp objects/other etc.
