This position combines direct sales responsibility with opportunities to mentor colleagues, support group sales strategy and assist with complex business opportunities. The Senior Group Sales Manager will manage assigned accounts and market segments, achieve personal booking goals and work closely with the Director of Sales and Marketing to strengthen overall group sales performance.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, relationship-driven hotel sales professional who enjoys winning business, sharing expertise and contributing beyond their individual account portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Group Sales and Account Development

  • Achieve or exceed assigned group room night, room revenue and associated banquet revenue booking goals.
  • Proactively develop new business through prospecting, sales calls, referrals, networking and industry events.
  • Manage assigned accounts and market segments, building relationships that generate repeat business and account growth.
  • Lead the sales process from initial qualification through proposal development, site inspections, negotiation and contract execution.
  • Develop compelling proposals that connect client needs with the hotel’s accommodations, meeting venues and riverfront setting.
  • Build productive relationships with meeting planners, corporate clients, associations, third-party intermediaries and Marriott sales partners.
  • Identify opportunities to secure business during need periods and improve the hotel’s competitive position.

Sales Leadership and Team Support

  • Serve as a resource for group sales colleagues, sharing account development techniques, market knowledge and effective selling practices.
  • Assist the Director of Sales and Marketing with onboarding and mentoring new sales team members.
  • Support colleagues with complex proposals, site inspections and negotiations as assigned.
  • Help lead sales discussions, prospecting initiatives and account reviews at the direction of the Director of Sales and Marketing.
  • Model responsive client communication, accurate documentation and consistent follow-through.
  • Collaborate across account assignments to identify opportunities and support shared hotel revenue goals.

Revenue Strategy and Business Planning

  • Partner with the Director of Sales and Marketing and Revenue Management to evaluate group opportunities and recommend pricing and booking strategies.
  • Assess room block patterns, meeting space requirements, banquet revenue potential and total account value when pursuing business.
  • Contribute market intelligence, account insights and recommendations during sales and revenue strategy meetings.
  • Monitor production within assigned segments and recommend actions to address booking gaps or emerging opportunities.
  • Support targeted promotions, account development plans and initiatives designed to grow group market share.
  • Maintain accurate account records, sales activities, booking status and production forecasts in hotel sales systems.

Client Experience and Operational Collaboration

  • Conduct engaging site inspections and presentations that build client confidence and demonstrate the hotel’s value.
  • Prepare clear, accurate proposals and contracts consistent with hotel policies and approval guidelines.
  • Ensure thorough and timely turnover of confirmed business to Event Management and hotel operations.
  • Partner with Event Management, Reservations and other departments to communicate client expectations and support successful programs.
  • Assist with resolving sales-related concerns and maintain client relationships to encourage repeat bookings.
  • Represent Boston Marriott Newton professionally at client functions, trade shows and community events.

What are we looking for?

Qualifications

  • Four or more years of progressive hotel sales experience, including demonstrated success in full-service hotel group sales.
  • Proven ability to achieve booking goals, develop new accounts and negotiate group business.
  • Experience managing complex meetings, conferences or accounts with significant room and banquet revenue potential.
  • Ability to mentor colleagues and contribute to team performance; prior formal supervisory experience is helpful but not required.
  • Strong understanding of group room blocks, meeting space utilization, contract terms and hotel revenue management principles.
  • Excellent prospecting, presentation, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organization and follow-through, with the ability to manage multiple opportunities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with hotel sales and CRM systems; Marriott systems experience preferred.
  • Greater Boston market knowledge and established meeting planner relationships preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, business, marketing or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
