ABOUT US

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities. We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better. It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.

Why this role matters

Your organisational skills can help change lives.

Behind every life-changing support service is a team of people who make it all possible. As our Administration Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting The Salvation Army’s Far West Family Violence program, helping create the strong operational foundations that enable our teams to support victim-survivors of family violence.

About the role

We are looking for a proactive, organised and resourceful Administration Assistant who enjoys keeping things running smoothly and takes pride in getting the details right. Working alongside Program Managers, onsite staff and our National Finance Team, you will provide essential administrative, financial, reception and site support to our Far West Family Violence program.

No two days will be quite the same. You will balance financial administration with office coordination, manage competing priorities and help ensure our people have the systems, resources and support they need to deliver quality services.

This is a part-time permanent role for 20 hours (4 hours across 5 days) a week based in Broken Hill, NSW. Salary is in accordance with SCHADS Level 3.

How you will make an impact

You will be at the heart of our day-to-day operations, helping our team stay organised, connected and focused on what matters most.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage financial records, petty cash, invoices, accounts payable and budget reconciliations.
  • Provide administrative support to managers and staff, coordinate office resources and maintain effective systems.
  • Manage calls, enquiries, visitors and correspondence professionally and courteously.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential and accessible staff, client and financial records.
  • Coordinate office supplies, equipment, vehicle servicing, maintenance and contractors.
  • Manage site IT administration and support IT setup and inductions for new starters.
  • Manage site security registers, compliance documentation and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Partner with managers, staff and the National Finance Team, national admin assistant to ensure accurate financial processing and compliant procurement.

What you will bring

  • Demonstrated experience in reception and general administration.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with a diverse range of people.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • A high level of attention to detail and a commitment to confidentiality when handling sensitive client, staff and financial information.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, as well as IT systems, financial applications and other administrative software.
  • The ability to work independently, show initiative and collaborate effectively with colleagues.
  • An understanding of workplace health and safety responsibilities and a commitment to creating a safe working environment.

Essential requirements

  • A current Working with Children Check (WWCC), or relevant state equivalent.
  • A current NSW driver licence.
  • A Certificate IV or Diploma in Business Administration, Accounting or a related field is desirable.

What we offer

The Salvos offer eligible employee's a well-balanced package of meaningful benefits including:

  • Remote Area Housing Benefit to employees who live and work in the area (up to $31,800 tax free)
  • Employee Assistance Program - Independent confidential counselling service
  • Financial, retail and lifestyle discounts and benefits
  • Discounted health and fitness programs through Fitness Passport
  • Up to 8 weeks (pro rata) leave per year through our purchase leave scheme
  • Generous Parental Leave offering of 12 weeks
  • Up to 5 days paid leave per year to support a TSA program or activity
  • An inclusive culture of dedicated, passionate, and professional team members

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
