ABOUT US

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities. We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better. It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.

Why this role matters

Across the Northern Territory, homelessness, housing instability and social disadvantage remain complex and deeply human challenges. Behind every statistic is a person, family or community seeking safety, stability and the opportunity to build a better future.

The Salvation Army is entering an exciting period of growth across the Territory. With new services emerging, innovative housing responses being developed, and significant investment being made to meet evolving community needs, there has never been a more exciting time to join our team. From strengthening existing services to developing new housing opportunities and specialist programs, including support for veterans transitioning into stable housing, this is a unique opportunity to help shape the next chapter of service delivery across the Northern Territory.

This newly created Regional Manager role has been established to help lead that growth and shape the future of Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) and Homelessness services across the Northern Territory. You will influence how services develop, expand and respond to community need while supporting positive outcomes for some of the Territory's most vulnerable people.

If you are motivated by purpose and energised by the opportunity to build something meaningful, this is a rare opportunity to step into a role with genuine influence, support high-performing leaders and create lasting change for people and communities across the Territory.

About the role

This is a newly created leadership role that reflects an exciting period of growth and opportunity across The Salvation Army's AOD and Homelessness services in the Northern Territory.

You will help shape a regional vision that strengthens services, builds leadership capability and creates lasting outcomes for people and communities experiencing vulnerability. Working closely with Program Managers and their teams, you will provide guidance, support and leadership across a growing portfolio of services, helping to turn strategy into meaningful practice.

You will build strong relationships with government, community organisations, peak bodies and sector stakeholders, while identifying opportunities for innovation, service development and future growth. Through your leadership, you will help foster a culture of collaboration, accountability and service excellence across the region.

This role offers a unique balance of strategic influence and people leadership, providing the opportunity to support future leaders, strengthen services and contribute to the continued growth of AOD and Homelessness services across the Northern Territory.

Based in Darwin, this role predominantly supports services across the Greater Darwin region, while also contributing to service delivery, development and growth opportunities across other Northern Territory locations as required. This permanent full-time position within the AOD and Homelessness team reports to the State Manager. Pay is in accordance with a SCHADS Level 8 with a 10% uplift.

How you will make an impact

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction across AOD and Homelessness services throughout the Northern Territory
  • Support and develop Program Managers to build capable, high-performing teams delivering consistent, high-quality services
  • Drive service growth and contribute to the development of new programs and initiatives
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government, community organisations, sector partners and key stakeholders
  • Support the implementation of national frameworks, models of care and best practice approaches
  • Ensure services meet contractual, accreditation, governance and compliance requirements
  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and resource optimisation
  • Champion a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability and continuous improvement
  • Advocate for the needs of people experiencing homelessness and other forms of disadvantage
  • Represent The Salvation Army in relevant sector, community and stakeholder forums
  • Foster a positive, values-driven culture grounded in leadership, learning and service excellence

What you will bring

You are a collaborative and values-driven leader who thrives in complex environments and is passionate about strengthening services, developing people and creating meaningful social impact.

  • Degree qualification in Social Work, Welfare, Community Development or a related discipline
  • Significant leadership experience within homelessness, AOD, community services or a related human services environment
  • Experience leading managers and supporting geographically dispersed teams
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills across government, community and sector networks
  • Demonstrated experience supporting organisational growth, service development and change initiatives
  • Strong financial management capability, including budgeting, forecasting and operational oversight
  • Experience driving governance, risk management and continuous improvement practices
  • A commitment to culturally safe, inclusive and person-centred service delivery
  • The ability to build high-performing teams and foster a positive organisational culture
  • NT Working with Children Check
  • NT Driving License

What we offer

The Salvos offer eligible employees a well-balanced package of meaningful benefits, including:

  • $75.34 – $78.31 hourly + superannuation based on experience level and qualifications, exclusive of penalties, allowances and NFP salary packaging
  • SCHADS Level 8 – Above Award conditions (up to 10%)

  • Relocation assistance for eligible employees (up to $5,000)

  • Five days paid leave per year to experience working in other Salvation Army programs
  • Access to Employee Assistance Program and health and wellbeing initiatives
  • Ongoing training and leadership development opportunities
  • A rewarding, purpose-driven career that makes a positive and lasting social impact

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
