Full Stack Product Engineer

Santé • Platform Engineering • Flatiron, NYC In office, full time • $220k–$280k base salary + meaningful equity

About Santé Santé is building the AI operating system for local retailers. Our platform brings point of sale, integrated payments, eCommerce, inventory, delivery integrations, marketing, bookkeeping, and AI agents into one system so independent liquor, grocery, and convenience stores can compete with national chains and build lasting value in their businesses.

We're building a future where the corner store has better technology than the national retailer. Your work reaches real stores quickly, and feedback comes directly from the owners running them. We ship daily, use AI coding agents throughout development, and build together in person in NYC.

About the Team Platform Engineering owns POS and checkout, architecture, and observability. This small team builds the foundations that Money Movement, Merchant Experience, and Applied AI depend on. You'll ship merchant-facing product across the stack and establish technical patterns other teams adopt. Our core stack is TypeScript, React, Next.js, tRPC, Prisma, and PostgreSQL.

About the Role We're looking for an engineer who can make a complex system feel simple to the person using it. You'll own features from product decisions through production: making checkout feel effortless during a rush, tracing latency into PostgreSQL, or designing retries that cannot charge a customer twice. Your decisions will shape both the product merchants use and the foundations other engineers build on. You will identify meaningful problems with merchants and teammates, make product and technical tradeoffs, and improve what you ship based on how it performs in real stores.

In this role you will Design and ship full-stack features, from intuitive React interfaces to reliable APIs and data models. Own projects from problem definition and technical design through testing, launch, and iteration, working closely with Product and store owners. Strengthen checkout and payments, making sales correct and recoverable through concurrent writes, network failures, and retries. Build shared components, internal tools, and development workflows that make the whole engineering team more effective. Operate what you ship. Trace slow interactions from the browser to PostgreSQL, improve observability, and eliminate recurring causes of production incidents. Direct AI coding agents as part of your daily workflow, reviewing their work and validating behavior before it reaches merchants. Raise engineering standards through thoughtful design reviews, clear code, and mentoring that improves how teammates solve problems.

Your background looks something like this A record of owning substantial full-stack products in production. You can explain the decisions you made, the tradeoffs, and what improved for users. Strong programming fundamentals and depth in modern frontend development, including interaction details, state management, accessibility, and performance. Depth in backend design and relational databases, especially PostgreSQL, including API boundaries, data modeling, transactions, query plans, and indexes. Practical understanding of distributed systems. You reason clearly about concurrency, idempotency, retries, and partial failure. Experience diagnosing production problems with logs, traces, and metrics, then fixing the underlying cause. Product judgment: you turn an ambiguous merchant problem into a focused solution and know when a simpler design is the better one. The autonomy to take an open-ended problem from first principles to a working product, and the communication skills to bring teammates with you.

Even better Payments or retail experience, including card terminals, preauthorization and capture, multi-location operations, or offline-resilient POS. Experience with our core stack, or operating Aurora/RDS, ElastiCache, and production observability tools such as Datadog and OpenTelemetry. Experience establishing shared architecture or developer tools adopted across teams. Experience building LLM-powered products or improving how teams use AI coding agents.

We value demonstrated engineering judgment and impact. If you bring that depth and can learn quickly, we welcome your application even if you haven't used every tool in our stack.

Compensation $220k–$280k base salary plus meaningful equity.

Compensation within the range depends on experience, skills, and scope of responsibility.

Benefits Fully company-covered medical and dental benefits. 401(k) Weekly catered lunch, and dinner provided each evening for employees who would like to eat with the team.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
