The Job:
As a Director, Developer Experience (DevEx) you’ll be part of our team working as hybrid employee based in Towson, MD or New Britain, CT or Charlotte, NC. The Director of Developer Experience leads the enterprise approach to improving software delivery through AI-enabled practices and tools across IT. Working with capability teams that retain delivery ownership, this leader evaluates emerging technologies, validates practical applications, and establishes reusable playbooks and standards across the software development lifecycle.
The role owns the AI-powered SDLC tooling portfolio, including vendor relationships, licensing, cost management, and lifecycle decisions. It enables consistent, responsible adoption that improves developer experience, delivery effectiveness, and quality.
- Strategy & Roadmap: Define and lead the developer experience and AI-powered SDLC roadmap, aligned with IT strategy, business priorities, and opportunities identified across capability teams.
- Technology Evaluation & Experimentation: Assess industry developments and existing practices; partner with teams to prototype and validate approaches for fit, usability, integration, implementation effort, risk, cost, and value.
- Playbooks & Standards: Translate proven approaches into reusable playbooks, reference patterns, and shared standards spanning requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, maintenance, and agile delivery practices.
- Tool Portfolio Ownership: Own vendor relationships, licensing, costs, and lifecycle decisions for AI-powered development & SDLC tools; rationalize overlapping capabilities and coordinate with broader platform owners where AI functionality is embedded, limiting ownership to the AI-specific capability and its associated commercial and lifecycle responsibilities.
- Responsible Adoption: Partner with architecture, cybersecurity, privacy, and other control functions to align tools and practices with enterprise requirements, while capability teams retain implementation and delivery accountability.
- Enablement & Change: Build commitment to AI-powered SDLC ways of working by demonstrating value, engaging leaders and practitioners, addressing adoption barriers, and supporting teams through the initial learning curve to sustained use.
- Measurement & Improvement: Measure adoption, developer experience, delivery effectiveness, quality, and value; use findings to refine the roadmap and inform leadership investment decisions.
- Team Leadership: Build and lead a team focused on practical experimentation, shared enablement, tooling ownership, and continuous improvement.
