Our mission is to provide essential sweeping and environmental services that support cleaner, safer, and more sustainable communities.   Your daily impact: As our next Diesel Mechanic, you'll be at the heart of our mission—keeping our street sweepers and equipment safe, reliable, and ready to serve the communities that depend on them. In this role, you’ll take ownership of inspections, diagnostics, and repairs, working hands-on with hydraulic, electrical, and air systems to ensure our fleet operates at peak performance. The job responsibilities below outline the core duties and expectations of a position, providing clarity on how the role supports Company goals. Safety & Inspection: Perform thorough inspections of equipment and mechanical systems to identify potential safety hazards or operational issues. Follow all safety protocols when working on machinery, including proper lockout/tagout procedures. Monitor lubrication, fluid levels, and equipment conditions to prevent leaks, contamination, or failures that could impact safety. Execution: Carry out assembly, repair, and preventive maintenance tasks with precision and attention to detail. Follow blueprints, technical specifications, and torque requirements to ensure all components are installed and maintained correctly. Complete assigned maintenance activities efficiently to minimize equipment downtime and maximize reliability. Equipment Operation: Operate diagnostic tools such as multimeters and specialized software to identify mechanical problems accurately. Utilize appropriate machinery and hand tools safely and skillfully during repairs and maintenance work on heavy equipment including sweepers, loaders, and backhoes. Material Handling: Handle mechanical components, replacement parts, lubricants, and fluids safely and according to procedures. Apply grease, oils, and other fluids properly to machinery, and manage disposal of used materials in compliance with environmental and safety regulations. Reporting: Immediately report any equipment issues, malfunctions, near misses, crashes, or injuries. Immediately escalate opportunities, work issues, or safety concerns to management. Communication: Effectively communicate maintenance needs and best practices to equipment operators and team members. Provide clear instructions and updates related to repair status, parts requirements, or changes in maintenance schedules to ensure smooth operations. Compliance & Documentation: Adhere strictly to company policies and industry regulations related to safety, environmental standards, and equipment maintenance. Complete all required documentation, including service reports, safety checklists, and compliance forms, to support operational accountability. Adaptability & Problem Solving: Respond proactively to unexpected equipment failures or operational challenges. Diagnose problems using available tools and resources, adapting repair approaches as needed. Collaborate with team members to develop solutions that improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime. Regular & Predictable Attendance: The ability to consistently report to work on time and as scheduled, with minimal unexcused absences. This includes being present and prepared to work throughout assigned shifts, and reliably adhering to start times, breaks, and end times.

  Minimum Job Requirements: Minimum job qualifications define the essential skills, experience, and abilities needed to succeed in the role. They set the baseline for hiring but may evolve as the job and business requirements change:

Education:  High School or GED Experience: 2 years of hands-on experience in a shop environment working with hydraulic, electrical, and air pressure systems. – heavy equipment, waste, & recycling services experience preferred License: Driver’s License Tools: Must provide and maintain basic hand and diagnostic tools necessary to perform the job Age: Must be at least 18 years of age Compliance: Must maintain an acceptable driving record and successfully pass a motor vehicle record (MVR) check, background check, DOT physical, and drug screening in accordance with Company policy and applicable law.

Communication & Accountability: Communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors and team members, represent the Company appropriately, and promptly report equipment issues, incidents, or safety concerns. Mechanical & Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of machinery, hydraulic, electrical, and other mechanical systems. Tool Proficiency: Skilled in using hand tools, shop tools, and precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers) safely and accurately. Communication & Accountability: Communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors and team members, represent the Company appropriately, and promptly report equipment issues, incidents, or safety concerns.

  Compensation: This posting represents multiple levels within our Mechanic career path. The level and corresponding pay will be determined based on the candidate’s relevant experience, license(s), certifications, and overall qualifications. The anticipated pay range for this posting is $23–$41/hour. Candidates may be considered for Shop Mechanic, Senior Shop Mechanic, or Shop Mechanic Lead based on their qualifications and the needs of the role.   Physical Requirements: Physical requirements outline the essential on-the-job demands needed to perform the role safely and effectively.

Work Environment & Exposure: Constant work outdoors with regular exposure to weather, elements, and traffic; occasional exposure to loud noise, dust/debris, and jarring conditions; limited exposure to chemicals. Physical Demands: Frequent sitting and walking/standing; occasional bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling; limited stair climbing and crawling; ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs at varying heights, including overhead. Cognitive & Sensory Requirements: Continuous reading, screen use, mental focus, and hand-eye coordination throughout the workday. Equipment & Tools: Operation of specialized equipment and use of hand controls, foot controls, and fine motor skills. Safety & Protective Gear: Required use of appropriate PPE, including high-visibility apparel, eye, ear, hand, foot, head, lung, and skin protection.
