Backend Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking a Backend Engineer to join our lean, technology-driven team. The ideal candidate will enjoy ownership, solving complex problems, and building scalable products from the ground up. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining reliable backend systems and APIs that support the company's growing marketplace, users, transactions, and integrations. The position offers an opportunity to work on innovative AI/LLM-powered features as the product evolves, contributing significantly to the company's technical direction and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable backend systems and APIs.
  • Take ownership of backend features end-to-end, from understanding requirements to design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Build systems capable of supporting the company's expanding marketplace, user base, transactions, and third-party integrations.
  • Proactively identify technical challenges and make sound architectural and engineering decisions.
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and contribute to engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with the broader team to build a strong engineering culture.
  • Work on AI/LLM-powered features and workflows as the product develops.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of strong backend engineering experience.
  • Solid fundamentals in backend development, system design, APIs, databases, and distributed/scalable systems.
  • Proven experience in building and shipping production-grade backend applications.
  • Demonstrated ownership mindset; comfortable working independently without constant guidance.
  • Ability to understand product/business requirements and convert them into practical technical solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Educational qualifications: Not specified, but typically a BSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with AI/LLM technologies, such as LangChain, OpenAI APIs, or similar tools.
  • Experience in building AI-powered applications, agents, or LLM-based workflows.
  • Exposure to B2B marketplaces, e-commerce, SaaS, or marketplace platforms.
  • Experience working in an early-stage startup or lean engineering team.
  • Some frontend awareness or experience is a plus but not mandatory.
