Job Description: Architect – Software

Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced SDET Architect with 10+ years in automation, test

frameworks, and test architecture. This role goes beyond writing scripts—it’s about

envisioning, designing, and governing enterprise-level test automation platforms that

ensure product quality across web, mobile, API, performance, and security layers.

As an Architect, you will play a strategic role in shaping testing practices, mentoring

engineering teams, and embedding quality engineering principles into every stage of

development. You will influence not just automation strategy but also overall engineering

excellence, scalability, and release confidence.

Key Responsibilities

● Architect, design, and implement scalable automation frameworks (UI, API, Mobile,

Performance).

● Define and govern test automation standards, guidelines, and best practices

across the organization.

● Partner with Dev/QA/DevOps teams to integrate automation seamlessly into CI/CD

pipelines.

● Mentor and guide SDETs, lead design/code reviews, and drive a strong automationfirst

culture.

● Define and drive non-functional testing strategies (performance, reliability, security).

● Evaluate emerging tools and AI-driven test practices, introducing innovative solutions

such as self-healing and intelligent test selection.

● Define strategies for test data management, virtualization, and cloud-based test

environments.

● Provide automation-driven quality insights for release readiness and risk

assessment.

● Ensure high test reliability and reduced flakiness to build confidence in automated

suites.

● Collaborate with development teams to ensure unit and integration tests with high

coverage.

● Manage test environments and dependencies effectively.

● Communicate test progress, risks, and outcomes clearly to stakeholders.

● Act as a thought leader by staying updated on emerging technologies, tools, and

industry practices.

Product & Business Alignment

● Understand our products from both a technical and business perspective within the

context of the larger organization.

● Provide feedback and technical insights to improve product solutions, tools, and

platform capabilities.

● Collaborate with engineering leadership to continuously improve automation, CI/CD,

and quality practices.

Qualifications

● Bachelor’s/Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.

● 10+ years in software testing/automation, with 4+ years in architect/lead capacity.

● Strong programming in Java, TypeScript/JavaScript (preferred), or C#.

● Hands-on with Selenium, Appium, Playwright, REST Assured, JUnit/TestNG.

● Deep understanding of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, etc.).

● Cloud experience: AWS, Azure, GCP, and test infra providers (BrowserStack, Sauce

Labs).

● Strong foundation in OOPs, design patterns, distributed systems, and scalability.

● Familiarity with test management/collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence, Git, TFS).

Technical Skills

● Programming Expertise: Strong in Java or TypeScript/JavaScript with solid

understanding of OOPs and design patterns

● Frameworks & Tools: Deep hands-on knowledge of Selenium, Appium, Playwright,

REST Assured, and other automation frameworks.

● CI/CD & DevOps: Experience integrating automation into Jenkins, Azure DevOps,

GitHub Actions, or AWS pipelines.

● Cloud & Infrastructure: Familiarity with AWS, Azure, GCP, and cloud-based test

infrastructure (Sauce Labs, BrowserStack).

● System Architecture: Strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability, and

performance.

● Test Coverage Areas: UI, API, Mobile, Database, Cross-browser, Performance, and

Security testing.

● Versioning & Collaboration: Git, TFS, Jira, Confluence, and agile/DevOps practices.

Preferred Qualifications

● Proven track record of designing enterprise-wide automation strategies across

products/units.

● Experience establishing Automation Centers of Excellence (CoEs).

● Hands-on with security testing practices and tools.

● Exposure to AI/ML-driven testing tools, intelligent test orchestration, and self-healing

frameworks.

● Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
