The posting

Diagnoses and treats a variety of diseases and injuries in general practice. As a staff physician you will have the authority and responsibility to contribute to and maintain an efficient, revenue-generating, dynamic medical department. This role includes providing full-spectrum patient care with strong   commitment to serving diverse communities and improving health outcomes for refugees through thorough medical assessment and follow-up care. Physician will provide initial medical care to the refugee health program and immigrants within 90 days of their arrival in the U.S. and continues to serve as primary care for medical care.   Responsible for maintaining high standards of professionalism, efficiency, personal communication, discretion, and independent judgment. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to perform all job-related activities as outlined below.      Essential Duties and Responsibilities:   Primary Functions:

Conducts initial health assessments, develops care plans, and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to address the unique health needs of refugees. Conduct comprehensive health assessments of patients and newly arrived refugees, including history taking, physical examinations, and necessary diagnostic tests. Elicits and records information about a patient’s medical history. Examines patient to determine general physical condition. Identify and manage acute and chronic health conditions, providing appropriate treatment and referrals as needed. Develop individualized care plans and ensure timely follow-up care. Coordinate with public health officials, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to address the medical, psychological, and social needs of refugees. Stay informed about current guidelines and best practices in refugee health. Maintain accurate and up-to date medical records in compliance with regulatory standards and program requirements. Administers or prescribes treatments and drugs. Assures patient’s vaccination status is up to date. Focuses on health promotion and disease prevention. Assures that all routine disease screening is complete for each patient who is seen to comply with various local, state, and federal audits. Reports birth, deaths, and outbreak of contagious diseases to governmental authorities. Adheres to the policies and procedures for dispensing medications and complies with the various prescription medication formularies. Performs minor office procedures as qualified. Conducts physical examinations to provide information needed for admission to school, consideration for jobs, or eligibility for insurance or disability coverage. Follows up and appropriately acts on all ordered studies and referrals in a timely manner. Promptly reports all suspected cases of child abuse, elder abuse, domestic violence, or homicidal ideation to the appropriate authorities. Must have all documentation of a patient visit complete within 48 hours of the patient’s visit. Must adhere to all privacy regulations as outlined in the policies and procedures and HIPAA guidelines. Must adhere to all OSHA and sharps safety policies and procedures and immediately report any sharps injury should one occur. Must complete all continuing Medical Education hours as required by the California State Medical Board and if applicable, the employee’s respective specialty board. Should notify the Medical Director of schedule changes at least one month in advance. Patient visits are approximately 30 minutes per intake and 15 minutes per follow-up appointment. Participate in program planning, quality improvement initiatives, and community outreach activities in further development of mobile health unit. Other duties as assigned by the Medical Director or designee.

Qualifications:

Doctorate degree (M.D. or D.O.) Current California Medical License Current ca DEA registration. Board Certified or Board Eligible. Minimum of five (5) years of general practice experience in FQHC facility. Patient load of twenty per day. Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.

  Preferred:

Experience working with refugee population and underserved communities. Experience serving a multinational, multicultural population. Proficiency in ECW electronic health record (EHR) system.

  Special Conditions of Employment:

CPR/ BLS certification: Maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), the American Red Cross, or an equivalent organization. Certification must include an in-person, hands-on skills assessment. Online-only certifications are not accepted. Annual background checks: Consent to annual background checks as a condition of continued employment, to ensure compliance with organizational standards and eligibility requirements. For-Cause Drug Screening: Comply with drug screening requirements when initiated by the organization for cause, to support a safe, compliant, and drug-free workplace. Ongoing Compliance Requirements: Maintain up-to-date compliance with all required annual renewals, including professional licenses, certifications, physical examinations, TB testing, and mandatory regulatory trainings as assigned by the San Diego CommunityHealth Center (SDCCHC).

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to think strategically and make data driven decisions. Able to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all during the course of work. Able to perform basic mathematical calculations necessary to perform the job function. Must be dependable and extremely trustworthy.  Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Suite or related programs.

Able to lift/move up to ten pounds, move from place to place. Able to stand, bend and reach for prolonged periods. Ability to do math, organize and prioritize workload, work effectively and efficiently under stress. Ability to supervise, multitask, understand, and follow instructions. Ability to proficiently read, write, speak, and understand English.

     Flexibility:  

Available for all shifts and, when required, able to work evenings and weekends.
