The posting

Segal McCambridge, a nationally recognized litigation firm, is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney with 2+ years of experience in asbestos defense or toxic tort litigation to join its national asbestos defense team. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced trial attorneys representing several high-profile clients in the national asbestos litigation docket, with exposure to complex litigation, national case strategy, and trial preparation.

Serving as national coordinating counsel for prominent clients, Segal McCambridge handles matters that demand strategic thinking, strong advocacy, and coordinated execution across jurisdictions. As an associate on this team, you will play an integral role in both day-to-day local counsel matters and national counsel responsibilities, gaining meaningful experience across all stages of complex litigation.

Work from anywhere in the United States, provided you are licensed and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Associates may work remotely or from one of Segal McCambridge’s many office locations. Candidates licensed in California, Illinois, New York, or Massachusetts are particularly encouraged to apply.

The Opportunity

As a member of Segal McCambridge’s national asbestos team, you will collaborate with attorneys across jurisdictions to defend complex asbestos claims, support national litigation strategy, and prepare matters for trial.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • National and Local Counsel Support: Assist with day-to-day local counsel matters while supporting national coordinating counsel responsibilities for high-profile clients.
  • Litigation Strategy: Evaluate claims, analyze exposure and causation issues, develop defense strategies, and contribute to case assessment and resolution.
  • Motion Practice and Discovery: Draft pleadings, written discovery, motions, and briefs; manage discovery; and assist with expert development and strategy.
  • Depositions and Hearings: Prepare for and conduct depositions of fact and expert witnesses, attend court conferences and hearings, and participate in mediations and settlement negotiations.
  • Trial Preparation: Work closely with national and local counsel on trial strategy, witness preparation, evidentiary issues, and other critical aspects of trial readiness.
  • Client Collaboration: Communicate with clients, insurers, co-counsel, and opposing counsel while helping manage litigation efficiently and effectively.

This role offers the opportunity to take on meaningful responsibility, sharpen your litigation skills, and develop a broader perspective on complex, coordinated national defense litigation.

What We’re Looking For

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active license in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • At least 2 years of experience in asbestos defense, toxic tort defense, or related complex litigation. Experience involving silica, benzene, or other toxic exposure claims is also relevant.
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Experience with discovery, motion practice, depositions, and litigation strategy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple matters and jurisdictions.
  • A proactive, collaborative, and client-focused approach to litigation.
  • Willingness to work across jurisdictions and contribute to national litigation and trial preparation efforts.

Preferred bar admissions: California, Illinois, New York, or Massachusetts. Admission in additional jurisdictions is a plus.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
