About SemiAnalysis

SemiAnalysis is an independent research and analysis firm specializing in the Semiconductor and AI industries. Our in-depth coverage spans the entire supply chain, from semiconductor fabrication processes to cutting-edge AI models, software, and infrastructure.

We are recognized as a leading authority on the semiconductor supply chain, with a high concentration of industry experts within one team and a deep-rooted passion for understanding the intricacies of the industry.

We are a global team of analysts with extensive networks across the semiconductor supply chain and AI ecosystem, publishing industry-shaping research while participating in numerous conferences annually.

Our newsletters reach more than 200,000 subscribers worldwide, including senior management and C-suite leaders at leading semiconductor and AI companies.

We also offer three core products:

  • Industry Models – We develop and publish industry models covering accelerator shipments, datacenter demand and supply, GPU total cost of ownership, and more. We work with hyperscalers, neoclouds, many of the world’s largest hedge funds, and government agencies.
  • Core Research – Our public equity markets product, geared towards financial investors, distils our deep technical research and knowledge into key insights on technology and product trends.
  • Consulting and Technical Due Diligence – We conduct custom research and project work to guide key strategic and investment decisions for the largest private equity funds, leading venture capital firms, companies across the AI ecosystem, and government agencies.

Position Overview

We are seeking a junior Research Analyst – AI Server Hardware & Components to track AI server hardware configurations and component content, providing the ground-truth layer beneath our accelerator, supply chain, and datacenter research.

Every generation of AI servers changes what is inside the box, including accelerators, CPUs, memory, storage, NICs and DPUs, power delivery, cooling systems, PCBs, substrates, cables, and connectors.

This role will be responsible for understanding exactly what ships in each AI server and rack platform, in what quantities, from which suppliers, and how component content changes from one generation to the next.

The research produced in this role will feed directly into SemiAnalysis’ AI server and component supply chain research used by some of the world’s largest investors and semiconductor companies.

This is a remote role, with Taiwan strongly preferred due to its position at the centre of the ODM and component ecosystem and the opportunity for regular in-person engagement with industry contacts. Strong candidates in other locations will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Track AI server platform configurations across generations and vendors, including NVIDIA NVL-class rack systems, AMD platforms, Google TPU, AWS Trainium, and other custom ASIC systems, down to board-level content.
  • Build and maintain detailed bill-of-materials and component-content datasets covering accelerator and CPU counts, memory, storage, networking, NICs, DPUs, switches, optics, connectors, cables, power delivery, cooling systems, PCBs, and substrates.
  • Track changes in server and rack architecture across platform generations and identify how these changes affect component requirements and supplier opportunities.
  • Monitor the ODM and OEM ecosystem, including Foxconn, Quanta, Wistron, Inventec, Supermicro, and other major server manufacturers.
  • Track platform allocations, shipment trends, production developments, and rack integration activity across ODMs and OEMs.
  • Monitor component supplier positioning and market-share shifts across the AI server bill of materials, identifying potential winners and losers as platforms transition.
  • Conduct supply chain checks and develop relationships with ODMs, component suppliers, distributors, and other industry participants, particularly across Taiwan’s server ecosystem.
  • Monitor Taiwanese industry news, monthly revenue disclosures, company earnings calls, and major trade shows including Computex, OCP, and vendor events.
  • Surface actionable findings and changes in the AI server supply chain quickly to the wider research team.
  • Maintain clean, structured, and consistently updated datasets that can be used across SemiAnalysis research products.
  • Contribute to research notes, reports, and newsletter publications alongside senior analysts.
  • Support institutional client questions relating to AI server configurations, component content, platform transitions, and supplier exposure.

Requirements

  • 0–3 years of experience in industry analysis, equity research, supply chain analysis, hardware engineering, semiconductor research, or a related field.
  • Strong recent graduates with demonstrated interest in AI infrastructure and hardware are encouraged to apply.
  • Familiarity with AI server hardware and a working understanding of the major components inside a modern GPU server or AI rack.
  • Genuine curiosity and willingness to develop deep knowledge of server architecture, component content, suppliers, and platform roadmaps.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain structured datasets with a high degree of accuracy and consistency.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to piece together conclusions from fragmented public information, industry checks, and supply chain sources.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Full professional proficiency in written and spoken English, as SemiAnalysis research and publications are produced in English.
  • Self-motivated, fast-learning, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Mandarin proficiency.
  • Familiarity with Taiwan’s ODM, component supplier, semiconductor, and electronics distribution ecosystem.
  • Prior exposure to server teardowns, bill-of-materials analysis, component cost estimation, or hardware benchmarking.
  • Familiarity with NVIDIA and AMD AI server platform roadmaps.
  • Familiarity with hyperscaler custom silicon programs, including TPU, Trainium, and other internally developed accelerator platforms.
  • Understanding of networking components such as NICs, DPUs, switches, optics, cables, and connectors.
  • Exposure to AI datacenter power delivery and cooling infrastructure, including liquid cooling, cold plates, and CDUs.
  • Experience following Taiwanese monthly revenue disclosures, earnings reports, and supply chain news flow.
  • Familiarity with Python for data analysis, automation, or dataset management is a plus.

Growth Areas

This role offers the opportunity to build deep expertise across the AI server and semiconductor hardware ecosystem, including:

  • AI server and rack architecture.
  • Accelerator and CPU platform roadmaps.
  • Memory, storage, networking, power, and cooling content.
  • Server ODM and OEM supply chains.
  • Component supplier positioning and market-share analysis.
  • AI infrastructure bill-of-materials modelling.
  • Taiwan semiconductor and electronics supply chain intelligence.
  • Hyperscaler custom silicon platforms.
  • Datacenter infrastructure and rack-scale system design.
  • Industry research, financial analysis, and institutional client communication.

As experience develops, the analyst can take increasing ownership of AI server platform research, component supply chain coverage, supplier forecasts, industry models, and published SemiAnalysis research.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
