The posting
We are looking for a Junior Chemical Engineer to join our R&D / Project team and support the development of advanced battery separator processes.
About Senior Material Europe
At Senior Material Europe, we manufacture separator film – a thin film used in lithium-ion batteries, including batteries for electric vehicles. The separator is a key component that helps make lithium-ion batteries safer, more durable and more efficient, supporting the transition towards a more electrified future.
Our production is modern, advanced and operated under controlled cleanroom conditions. The manufacturing process consists of four main process steps, where precision, stability and quality are essential.
Together, we are building advanced manufacturing capabilities in Europe and developing solutions that make a difference – both today and for the future.
The role As a Junior Chemical Engineer, you will support the development and optimization of chemical and process engineering solutions at our site. You will work across different stages of engineering projects – from process design and technical documentation to equipment installation, commissioning and troubleshooting.
This is a hands-on and cross-functional role where you will work closely with Production, Quality, EHS, Procurement, Equipment and Maintenance, as well as project teams and international suppliers and contractors.
Your responsibilities
- Supporting chemical-system process design and optimization.
- Preparing and updating P&IDs, equipment lists and other technical documentation.
- Supporting equipment and piping installation and supplier/contractor follow-up.
- Assisting with commissioning, trial runs and troubleshooting.
- Supporting corrective actions, punch lists and technical follow-up.
- Preparing and maintaining as-built documentation and supporting engineering changes.
- Participating in site inspections and technical meetings.
- Supporting risk assessments and documentation related to SDS, CE, ATEX and PED.
- Following applicable environmental, occupational health and safety requirements and site procedures.
Who you are
You are an early-career engineer with an interest in chemical engineering, industrial processes and technology.
You are structured, responsible and proactive, with a practical and solution-oriented approach. You pay attention to safety, quality and detail, while being comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
You are curious and willing to learn, and you communicate effectively with people from different functions and backgrounds.
You bring
- A Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry or a related engineering field.
- 0–3 years of relevant industrial or engineering experience.
- Basic knowledge of chemical/process engineering and industrial production.
- Familiarity with process equipment, piping, pumps, tanks, valves and instrumentation.
- The ability to read and interpret P&IDs and technical drawings.
- Ability to organise and maintain engineering documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering/documentation systems.
- Good professional working proficiency in English and Chinese, written and spoken.
- Basic awareness of environmental and occupational health and safety requirements.
It would be an advantage if you have
- Experience in chemical processing, industrial manufacturing, equipment installation, commissioning, troubleshooting or process engineering.
- Familiarity with engineering change management and as-built documentation.
- Experience coordinating with suppliers, contractors or internal stakeholders.
- Knowledge of CE, PED, ATEX, industrial risk assessments or chemical safety/SDS documentation.
- Intermediate Swedish proficiency.
- Relevant training or certification in chemical safety, ATEX, CE/PED, occupational health and safety or related areas.
Why Senior Material Europe?
At Senior Material Europe, you will have the opportunity to work close to both advanced technology and real industrial production.
You will join our R&D / Project team of around 20 people in Eskilstuna and collaborate across engineering, production and support functions. The role offers practical exposure to chemical systems, process optimization, equipment installation and commissioning, while giving you the opportunity to build your technical and project experience.
We value responsibility, collaboration, safety, quality and continuous learning, and we work in an international environment where different perspectives and expertise come together.
If you are looking to build your engineering experience while contributing to the development of advanced battery manufacturing in Europe, we would like to hear from you.
Ready to take the next step? We look forward to receiving your application.
Employment: Fixed-term employment from 2 November 2026 to 2 November 2028, with the possibility of a permanent position thereafter.
