Used Car Technician Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive inspections on used vehicles.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, steering, suspension, brake, and drivability concerns.
  • Complete manufacturer-recommended maintenance and reconditioning services.
  • Perform safety inspections to ensure vehicles meet dealership standards.
  • Test drive vehicles before and after repairs to verify proper operation.
  • Maintain efficiency while producing high-quality repairs.
  • Document inspections, repair recommendations, and completed work accurately.
  • Use diagnostic equipment, power tools, and hand tools safely and effectively.
  • Work closely with management to prioritize vehicle readiness and inventory turn.

Used Car Technician Requirements

  • Previous automotive technician experience required.
  • Ford dealership experience is a plus.
  • Ford certification is a plus.
  • ASE certifications are preferred.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of automotive systems and repair procedures.
  • Ability to learn new technology and manufacturer repair procedures.
  • Comfortable using electronic diagnostic equipment and repair software.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical or automotive training preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and remain on your feet throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced dealership environment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Positive attitude with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
