The posting

Job description

We make smart devices and push the boundaries of the IoT sector every single day. Shelly is a strong company with a startup mindset - no bureaucracy, just bold ideas, creative problem-solving, and a team that genuinely loves what they do. We turn every spark of an idea into a real product - from first concept to full production - and bring smart automation to over 3 million households around the world. From heating, lighting, appliances, curtains, and more - if it runs on electricity, chances are we can automate it. We’ve built over 100 smart devices (and counting!), and everything happens right here at our headquarters in Sofia. Sounds exciting? Keep reading...

Junior QA Specialist

Your Role As a Junior QA Specialist at Shelly, you get hands-on with our smart-home devices and help make sure their hardware and firmware work reliably together. You create and run manual tests, investigate bugs, and collaborate with developers and hardware engineers to catch issues before they reach users. You also contribute to Python-based test automation and help make our testing processes more effective.

What makes you a great fit:

  • You bring at least 1 year of experience in manual QA or software testing.
  • You understand software testing principles, methodologies, and the product development, software development, and software testing lifecycles.
  • You have hands-on experience creating, maintaining, and executing manual test cases and documenting test results.
  • You use Jira or similar bug-tracking tools to report and track issues clearly.
  • You are comfortable working with Git, Linux, and basic command-line operations.
  • Understand programming fundamentals and can write and maintain simple scripts, preferably in Python.
  • Have experience with test automation tools and are familiar with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Pay attention to detail, approach problems analytically, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, and collaborate well with colleagues across teams.
  • You get bonus points for familiarity with IoT protocols such as MQTT, Matter and Zigbee and embedded systems testing, or troubleshooting hardware-software interactions.
  • You stand out even more with Python or other programming skills, a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or an ISTQB Foundation Level certification or equivalent.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Plan, design, maintain, and execute manual test cases for Shelly’s IoT devices, checking how firmware and hardware work together.
  • Perform functional, regression, and integration testing to check device behavior in real-world scenarios.
  • Analyze and document test results, highlight quality issues, and suggest improvements.
  • Identify, reproduce, report, and track bugs, working closely with development and hardware teams to investigate issues and verify fixes.
  • Contribute to test strategies, test plans, and clear, up-to-date test documentation.
  • Help write and maintain Python test scripts and improve the automation framework’s coverage and scalability.
  • Explore new QA tools and approaches, share what you learn, and help improve our testing processes.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
