A Snapshot of Your Day

You will most likely start in a wind turbine development project that is still in its early stages. Using our MATLAB controller tuning tools and BHawC (our in-house aeroelastic wind turbine simulation code), you will investigate controller solutions to optimize the balance between turbine loads, turbine behaviour, and power production.

Working closely with experienced colleagues, you will review simulation results, apply engineering judgement to identify the next steps, and coordinate with teams across Turbine Loads, Software, Certification, Testing, and component design.

As you gain experience and the project progresses, you will also work with prototype data and support turbine validation activities at our test site in Østerild.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on wind turbine controller development, tuning and validation. It is not a project management or software development position, although you will collaborate closely with both disciplines.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Tune the wind turbine controllers using aeroelastic simulations and engineering analysis.
  • Analyze simulation and test results to understand turbine loads, performance and behaviour.
  • Support the development of new controller functionalities, from early simulation studies through prototype validation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering tools, reports, methods, and processes, and take an active role in implementing improvements.
  • Collaborate with Turbine Loads, Certification, Testing, Software, and component design teams, while ensuring technical findings and progress are effectively communicated.

What You Bring

  • A degree in Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • Relevant engineering experience from industry, research, or technically complex projects, combined with the ability to critically evaluate results, challenge assumptions, and raise concerns when something does not add up.
  • Strong MATLAB skills and experience with, or interest in, Python for engineering tools and data analysis.
  • Experience with wind turbines, aeroelastic simulations, control engineering, or prototype measurements is an advantage. We do not expect candidates to bring experience in all of these areas.
  • A collaborative and responsible way of working, with the ability to communicate progress, seek alignment, and take ownership of the overall engineering challenge, not just your assigned tasks. Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken.

About the Team

Optimization & Validation is part of the Turbine Control Department within R&D. Our team consists of six full-time employees and two student assistants based in a new office in Ballerup, Denmark. We are proud to be an international team with colleagues from four continents: North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Our working language is English.

The team plays a key role in offshore wind turbine development projects. During the early stages of a project, we scope and tune the controller using BHawC simulations, support certification activities, coordinate controller changes with the Software Department, and discuss simulation results with Turbine Loads and component design teams.

As projects move towards prototype testing, we perform extensive validation activities, ensuring turbine and controller performance matches simulation predictions. Much of this work is based on data collected from our prototype offshore turbines installed in Østerild.

We encourage open technical discussions and value diverse engineering perspectives. Constructive disagreement is welcomed when it helps identify a problem or reach a better technical decision.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
