The posting

At Sigma, we’re not just adding AI—we’re building the future of how people work with data. Our platform already lets users explore billions of rows of data in seconds with a spreadsheet-like interface, analyze and present their data in workbooks, and build data apps and workflows. Now we’re pushing further, applying AI to reshape how people build in Sigma, discover insights, and make smarter decisions—fast.

Our internship program at Sigma:

Sigma’s Early Career Program is the launchpad for the next generation of engineers and innovators. As an Intern at Sigma, you’ll work on various production features and learn efficient engineering for large scalable systems. Our interns work directly with our engineers, product leaders, and designers across the organization everyday. We’re looking for students who bring curiosity, a spirit for collaboration, and a desire for shaping the future of business insights and data exploration.

Internship Program Qualifications:

  • Current student:
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in a university undergraduate or graduate degree program in the U.S with a graduation date of December 2027 or later
  • Able to intern from June 2027 through August 2027 (flexible)
  • Authorization:
  • You must be legally authorized to work in the US during the Summer 2027 program
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for our internship positions, but we welcome applicants on a student visa (with authorization to work in the U.S.) to apply
  • Location:
  • Applicants must be able to work in-person in our office in San Francisco, CA or New York, NY for the duration of their internship.
  • Relocation assistance will be provided for students who will need to relocate for the summer in the form of a relocation bonus.

About the role:

As a Technical Writing Intern, you will test and document new product features that help our global user base analyze and gather insights from their data. During your internship, you’ll partner directly with your tech writer mentor, as well as collaborate with other teams across the business to deliver a significant new documentation project that benefits our customers. You will collaborate across the company to determine the best solution for your technical challenge. Interns will take their project from ideation through implementation, iterating and gathering feedback along the way. Potential projects include developing new tutorials and examples, creating video and gif content to illustrate key concepts, or implementing information architecture transformations to optimize content for AI agents.

During your internship you will:

  • Write clear and accurate documentation that enables Sigma customers to use the product to effectively and efficiently achieve their goals.
  • Deploy documentation and gather insights from customer metrics to aid you in making better decisions and improve your business acumen and collaboration skills.
  • Work closely with the development team (including engineers, designers, and product managers) throughout the development process to understand features and functionality at the level of a subject matter expert.
  • Participate in cross-functional planning, bug bashes, and strategic discussions.
  • Explore and validate product features through rigorous testing, sharing insights with the team.
  • Translate complex technical details into clear, digestible documentation and release notes.
  • Work collaboratively and closely with other writers to ensure consistent and cohesive content, style, and messaging.
  • Draft, review, and publish content in a docs-as-code workflow with AI tooling in the loop.
  • Improve existing documentation based on feedback from customer-facing teams and actively address knowledge gaps, prioritizing user empowerment for all audiences.
  • Develop visually captivating, dynamic documentation that includes diagrams, screenshots, and other visual aids.

What we’re looking for:

A cover letter is required for applications to be considered. Please share why you’re interested in Sigma and how you meet the criteria listed in this "What we're looking for" section.

  • Applicants must be pursuing at least a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Exceptional written and spoken communication skills, emphasizing clarity and approachability for various audiences.
  • A genuine desire to learn new things daily and to translate complex topics into actionable user assistance for end users.
  • Solid project management and communication abilities. You love to find the right resources and can own tasks end to end with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment.
  • Able to commit 40 hrs a week for 12 weeks in-person in our San Francisco, CA or New York, NY office

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
