Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients, treatment rooms, dental instruments, equipment and materials for examinations and dental procedures.

  • Clean, disinfect, package, sterilise, store and track reusable dental instruments in accordance with infection prevention and control procedures and manufacturer instructions.
  • Clean and reset dental surgeries between patients, manage clinical waste and maintain adequate supplies of personal protective equipment and clinical consumables.
  • Assist patients before, during and after treatment, including patient positioning, reassurance and reinforcing dentist-approved post-treatment instructions.
  • Maintain accurate clinical notes and patient records under the direction of the treating dentist, ensuring patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of clinical information.
  • Check dental equipment for safe operation, report faults, maintain instruments and monitor clinical stock levels.
  • Liaise with dentists and reception staff to support appointment scheduling, treatment preparation and efficient clinical workflow.
  • Comply with workplace health and safety requirements, infection prevention and control standards, practice policies and lawful directions from supervising dental practitioners.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of one to two years of practical experience working as a Dental Assistant in a clinical dental practice.
  • Certificate III in Dental Assisting or Certificate IV in Dental Assisting is highly regarded; equivalent relevant training and practical experience will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of dental instruments, materials, terminology, sterilisation procedures and chairside assisting techniques.
  • Familiarity with dental practice management software, particularly Praktika or Dental4Windows, is advantageous.
  • Understanding of infection prevention and control, workplace health and safety, patient confidentiality and safe clinical practices.

Key Skills and Attributes

  • Competence in chairside assistance and the preparation of dental instruments, equipment and materials.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with empathy and sensitivity towards patients experiencing dental anxiety.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of hygiene, sterilisation and clinical safety.
  • Effective time management, organisation and the ability to prioritise tasks in a busy dental practice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with dentists and other practice team members.
  • Professional conduct, discretion and respect for patient privacy.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
