The posting

Skylight is a technology startup building the OS of the family. We make Skylight Calendar, the smart calendar loved by millions of families (plus Wired and the Wirecutter). Our latest product is Calendar 2, which just launched to rave reviews.

Our mission is to connect loved ones by creating the world’s simplest products and services that improve family life. Our founders are former venture capitalists and serial entrepreneurs who have scaled this business to $300M+ in annual revenue while being completely bootstrapped and profitable. We get to grow a happy, healthy company focused on making products our customers love without investors breathing down our necks.

Smart, hardworking people who care about making actually meaningful products love working here. People like you. We’re busy inventing new ways to simplify family life and help parents raise great kids – and we need your help! Come invent something new with us.

About the Role:

We’re seeking a Senior QA Engineer to assist us with our ongoing software testing. You will be performing exploratory testing, automated testing, and bug reporting within a cross-functional team. This is a highly collaborative role and requires excellent verbal and written communication.

This might be the perfect role for you if you are excited by

  • Being highly collaborative within a cross-functional pod that includes product, engineering and design.
  • Working within a team that values feedback and gives it openly and regularly.
  • Being embedded in an engineering team where quality is a shared responsibility.
  • Having a valued and sought after opinion when it comes to project scope and design.
  • Digging deep to reproduce and identify root causes to share with engineers and product.
  • Developing a deep empathy for our users and advocating for their experience.
  • Contributing to a product that our customers genuinely love because it solves real, everyday problems for busy families and those with neurodivergent kids (the ADHD and Autism communities are among our biggest fans)

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with product and engineering during project scoping and refinement to identify risk and establish test plans.
  • Manual exploratory testing and validation of new projects within your pod.
  • Testing Android-based software running on custom hardware and firmware.
  • Working with engineers and QA to define, design, implement, and maintain automated test scripts across and between our tech stacks (mobile, android, web, backend).
  • Participating in bug triage and incident response to reproduce and advocate for timely resolution of important software defects.
  • Collaborating with QA team members across pods to improve testing efficiency and foster a sustainable workload amongst the team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in the quality assurance field
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication
  • Capable of analyzing business requirements from a customer’s perspective
  • Hands-on testing experience with mobile devices (Android + iOS)
  • Experience testing software on embedded Android devices
  • Familiarity with ADB, system logs, and Android internals
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to identify and foresee requirement gaps
  • Experienced with logging and tracking defects throughout the defect lifecycle
  • Strong understanding of the SDLC, Agile testing, and software testing methodologies

Benefits

Our competitive compensation package includes:

  • Competitive Salary + Equity Package
  • 401K matching
  • Wellness, learning, and home-office budgets
  • Health, Dental & Vision Medical Plans
  • Tremendous autonomy to set the direction of your work
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Company holidays on the first Friday of every month (Except November & December)

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
