About Us

Social Finance is a national nonprofit and registered investment adviser expanding economic opportunity in America. We bring government, philanthropy, and business leaders together to improve systems and put capital to work in new ways. Since our founding in 2011, we have mobilized more than $500 million to create measurable results in workforce and education, health, and housing.

We are driven by the belief that social and economic systems should enable all people to thrive, and the conviction that we can create the most meaningful and measurable change in our communities when governments and markets work together. Our organization is built upon five core values: people, performance, integrity, collaboration, and inclusion.

Our work spans four areas: Impact-first Investing, Workforce and Education Investments, Advisory & Public Sector Practice, and the Social Finance Institute. Our Impact-first Investment team designs, launches, and manages investments that provide solutions for effectively deploying impact capital across a range of social outcomes. Our Workforce and Education Investments team designs, launches and manages financial solutions focused on addressing workforce challenges, including skills acquisition and training access. Our Advisory team partners with government and philanthropy leaders to implement data-driven programs for advancing social impact. And through the Social Finance Institute, we aim to build the field and change systems through actionable research, communities of practice, and educational outreach.

About the Role

Social Finance is seeking a highly responsive, proactive, independent and mission-oriented technologist to own our technology environment. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Associate Director of Information Technology will manage several critical capacities supporting our employees while working alongside our external managed services provider (the “MSP”) to ensure a best-in-class user experience.

Beyond day-to-day support, this role owns the business platforms our departments rely on, including Sage Intacct (accounting), Rippling (human resources), Affinity (partnerships CRM) and Salesforce. We are looking for someone who will develop deep fluency in how these systems are configured and how their data is structured, and who can write queries and reports directly against them, so business leaders get the information they need.

Enterprise Systems Ownership and Reporting

  • Serve as the accountable owner of our portfolio of business applications, maintaining a current inventory of systems, functional owners, integrations, renewal dates and costs.
  • Act as administrator for business applications including Sage Intacct (Finance), Rippling (Talent) and Affinity (Partnerships);
  • Build customized reports and dashboards for Finance, Talent, Partnerships and program teams, writing SQL against Sage Intacct reporting sources and working with system APIs where needed; train business users to run and interpret what you build.
  • For Salesforce, Slack, Zoom Voice and Video, SharePoint, Qualtrics and Adobe, serve as the technical counterpart to functional owners
  • Play a key role in the second phase of our Rippling implementation, including the conversion of accounts payable from Bill.com and the integration between Rippling and Sage Intacct.
  • Identify opportunities to integrate systems, eliminate duplicate data entry and retire redundant tools.
  • Manage all associated licenses, including procurement, security assessment, contracting and renewal, in close collaboration with the Finance and Legal teams.
  • Evaluate new platforms proposed by departments, leading requirements gathering, vendor diligence, security review, implementation and change management.

End User Experience and MSP Management

  • Provide both direction and execution as it relates to improving and growing the IT end user and new user onboarding technologies and experiences.
  • In conjunction with our MSP, ensure timely communication and resolution of user issues, and meet regularly with the MSP on service levels, areas of improvement and strategic projects to ensure secure technologies and systems.
  • Proactively address areas of concern that may lead to pain points for our employees.
  • Manage IT equipment inventory, ensuring new employees have the appropriate equipment and access in advance of start dates, that replacement equipment is provided when needed, and that offboarding is handled securely, including timely return of equipment and termination of system and application access.
  • Give new employees a comprehensive introduction to our IT environment, with hands-on training for business tools supported by clear documentation.

Workplace Technology

  • Together with MSP, ensure on the ground management and maintenance for all in office equipment in the Boston office, including printers, copiers, video conferencing equipment, cables, telephones, loaner laptops and other devices.
  • For satellite offices in San Francisco, Austin and Washington, D.C., support Office Heads remotely and travel as needed for setup and larger scale initiatives.
  • Work out of the Boston office two or more days per week and be present for all new hire start dates and larger events such as Board meetings and team offsites.

Artificial Intelligence, Process and Security

  • Collaborate with and support our AI team, serving as the technical partner on infrastructure, platform administration, access and license management, and integration of AI tools with our business systems.
  • Support AI enablement across the organization by helping deliver training, documentation and technical troubleshooting, and by identifying workflows in finance, talent, partnerships and program operations where AI can reduce manual effort.
  • Provide technical support to the program teams as they advise clients on technology and AI.
  • Develop and implement IT related processes and procedures, and work with the Talent and Legal teams so that security related policies are clearly communicated, trained on and understood.
  • Stay current on new technologies and industry developments, and provide recommendations, project plans, implementation management and the associated communication and training.
  • Maintain documentation of systems, access and configurations, and support other internal IT initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

We seek a highly motivated technology professional, ideally with experience in a fast-paced professional services environment. Organization, attention to detail, adaptability, and commitment to Social Finance’s mission are key.

  • At least five years of IT user support experience and the ability to communicate technical information effectively; experience leading an IT support or helpdesk function preferred.
  • Working proficiency in SQL, with the ability to write and troubleshoot queries against business systems; experience building reports in Sage Intacct, including SQL based reporting sources and the Interactive Custom Report Writer, is a strong plus.
  • Comfort working with system APIs and light scripting, for example Python or JavaScript, to extract data, build integrations and automate recurring reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience administering business software platforms and building reports or dashboards from systems of record such as accounting, human resources or CRM systems; familiarity with Rippling, Affinity or Salesforce is a plus.
  • Experience supporting system implementation, conversion or integration project.
  • Practical experience using AI tools in a work setting and interest in supporting their responsible adoption.
  • Experience implementing, troubleshooting and maintaining Google Suite, including Gmail and Google Drive, in a professional setting.
  • Experience managing vendors or an outsourced service provider, including service level conversations and escalation.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and willingness to take ownership and take on additional responsibilities as appropriate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technology documentation, user instructions, inventory tracking and associated reporting.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, hands-on, and able to troubleshoot and manage multiple priorities at once.
  • Commitment to enhancing a team culture of inclusion, belonging and equity.
  • Ability to be in office 3 or more days per week.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
