As our Product organisation continues to grow, we are investing further in the shared platforms and technical foundations that allow our product teams to deliver reliable, scalable and future-proof solutions.

To support this evolution, we are looking for a Manager Platform Delivery – Platform & Foundations.

What the job is about

In this role, you lead and develop software engineering teams responsible for the technical foundations and shared capabilities that power Miles Enterprise.

These teams work across a broad range of platform capabilities, including:

  • Shared services
  • Calculation engines
  • Document generation
  • Decision support and AI
  • Identity and access management
  • Integration frameworks
  • Configuration management tooling
  • Data streaming
  • Foundational application frameworks

Your focus is to ensure these capabilities remain robust, performant and extensible, while enabling Product teams and external developers to build and integrate efficiently.

You combine people leadership, delivery ownership and technical direction, working closely with Product Managers, Architects and other Engineering leaders to shape the future of the Miles platform.

Our core backend environment is primarily Java-based, with technologies such as Quarkus, REST APIs and event-driven architectures, so strong technical credibility in modern backend and platform engineering is important.

You will also play an important role in Sofico’s broader move toward a more product-first and AI-enabled way of working.

Your responsibilities

Lead and grow strong engineering teams

Build, organise and mentor high-performing engineering teams that take ownership of the core platform components they develop and maintain.

Support engineers in their professional development through regular feedback, coaching and clear expectations.

Drive platform delivery

Ensure timely and predictable delivery while maintaining high standards for product quality, reliability and bug-resolution SLAs.

Balance strategic platform investments with short- and medium-term delivery commitments.

Shape the platform strategy

Collaborate with Product Management, Architecture and senior leadership to define the technical direction of our shared platform capabilities.

Help ensure architectural decisions support both current product needs and the long-term evolution of Miles.

Enable Product teams

Build platforms and frameworks that allow Product teams to deliver customer value faster and with greater autonomy.

Promote intuitive APIs, reusable services and scalable engineering patterns that reduce unnecessary complexity for internal and external developers.

Improve engineering effectiveness

Define and monitor meaningful engineering metrics and work with our tooling and enablement teams to improve developer productivity.

Drive continuous improvement across areas such as:

  • Lead time
  • Delivery predictability
  • Reliability
  • Quality
  • CI/CD
  • Developer experience

Strengthen engineering practices

Promote modern software engineering practices, automation, cloud-native design and scalable architecture.

Contribute to the maturation and standardisation of cross-functional development processes across the Product organisation.

Enable AI-assisted engineering

Sofico is actively investing in AI across the Product and Software Development Lifecycles.

Help teams use tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot and AI agents across activities such as analysis, coding, testing, documentation and code review.

Ensure AI is introduced pragmatically, with engineers remaining accountable for quality and final decisions.

Collaborate across the organisation

Partner closely with:

  • Product Managers
  • Software Architects
  • Engineering leaders
  • Product teams
  • Customer-facing teams
  • Senior management

You will also act as a trusted escalation point when platform, delivery or technical issues require broader alignment.

Your skills and interests

You are a credible engineering leader who combines strong people leadership with a solid understanding of enterprise software architecture.

You are comfortable discussing technical details with engineers and architects, but can equally communicate priorities, trade-offs and risks with Product leaders, customers and senior stakeholders.

What you bring

  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering leadership
  • A strong track record of leading engineering teams across multiple platform or technical areas
  • Strong software engineering foundations, ideally with Java and modern enterprise backend development
  • Experience with technologies such as Quarkus, REST APIs and event-driven architectures is a strong advantage
  • Experience with areas such as shared services, integration frameworks, platform engineering, data, AI or developer platforms
  • Strong understanding of enterprise software architecture
  • Experience with cloud-native systems and distributed architectures
  • Good understanding of modern DevOps and CI/CD practices
  • Experience balancing long-term platform investments with product and delivery commitments
  • Experience working closely with Product Management and Architecture
  • Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills
  • A track record of coaching and developing engineers
  • Experience with, or genuine interest in, AI-assisted software engineering
