The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Portfolio Accountant, Reporting & Compliance based in the United States.

The Senior Portfolio Accountant, Reporting & Compliance will play a key role in overseeing the financial performance, accounting operations, and regulatory compliance of a growing portfolio of renewable energy projects. This position combines portfolio accounting, financial reporting, project financing, and ongoing compliance responsibilities. You will manage accounting activities related to newly closed projects, debt and tax equity funding transactions, and the long-term financial obligations of financing structures. Working closely with leadership, investors, lenders, auditors, and cross-functional teams, you will deliver accurate reporting and actionable financial insights. The role also involves monitoring financial covenants, managing capital accounts and distributions, and ensuring financing vehicles meet their contractual obligations. This is an opportunity for an experienced accounting or project finance professional to take ownership of complex processes and contribute to the growth of a mission-driven renewable energy business.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead portfolio budget-versus-actual analysis, investigate financial variances, identify key performance drivers, and provide recommendations to support management decisions.
  • Prepare and distribute financial and management reporting packages for internal leadership, investors, lenders, and other external stakeholders.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities across assigned portfolios.
  • Oversee the accounting onboarding of newly closed projects and financing transactions, ensuring transactions are accurately reflected in the books.
  • Support debt and tax equity funding processes from draw requests through closing, including funding entries, sources-and-uses schedules, and the resolution of accounting-related funding conditions.
  • Coordinate the financial close of new financing transactions with investment, legal, and asset management teams.
  • Manage recurring compliance calendars for each financing vehicle, including financial covenant and Debt Service Coverage Ratio (DSCR) testing, reserve requirements, distributions, and lender and tax equity reporting.
  • Calculate debt service obligations, partner and investor distributions, and cash waterfalls in accordance with credit agreements, partnership agreements, and operating agreements.
  • Maintain and reconcile partner and member capital accounts, including capital contributions, distributions, and allocations of income and losses.
  • Prepare audit work papers, financial schedules, and supporting documentation for external auditors.
  • Ensure quarterly and annual reporting obligations to lenders, investors, and other external parties are completed accurately and on time.
  • Administer project agreement obligations and monitor compliance with applicable regulatory and government requirements.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to make accounting close, financing, and compliance activities more efficient and scalable.
  • Review the work of junior accountants and analysts, provide guidance and mentoring, and document key accounting processes.
  • Lead special projects and cross-functional initiatives as the portfolio and business continue to expand.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Master's degree in Finance, Business, or a related discipline is an advantage.
  • At least 5 years of experience in portfolio management, investment banking, project finance, or a closely related field.
  • Working knowledge of debt agreements, LLC and partnership agreements, and other transaction documents, including their implications for distributions, cash waterfalls, and capital account allocations.
  • Experience supporting debt or tax equity funding transactions, onboarding newly closed projects or deals, and recording related accounting entries.
  • Strong financial modeling and advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to prepare sources-and-uses, liquidity, cash waterfall, and covenant compliance schedules.
  • FP&A experience covering budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, with the ability to communicate financial results and recommendations to senior management.
  • Experience with the operating phase of infrastructure, real estate, or solar assets, including covenant and DSCR testing, distributions, and lender reporting, is preferred.
  • Experience reviewing the work of junior team members or providing mentoring and professional guidance.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP accounting principles and the ability to manage complex accounting and compliance processes with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with internal departments, external auditors, lenders, investors, and other third parties.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Experience in renewable energy, particularly solar project accounting or fund accounting, is strongly preferred.
  • Annual salary range of $90,000–$110,000, depending on location, relevant skills, and experience.
  • Incentive-based compensation with the potential to earn additional compensation.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with a 4% company match.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
  • Company-paid life insurance and long-term disability insurance.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Flexible remote and hybrid working arrangements.
  • Summer Fridays.
  • Training and professional development opportunities.
  • Team lunches, company events, and stocked kitchens.
  • Access to modern, collaborative office spaces in Asbury Park, New York City, Boston, Chicago, and Baltimore.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
