About Solen Software Group
Solen Software Group is a long-term owner and operator of mission-critical B2B software companies. We acquire proven, profitable businesses and partner with founders and management teams to build enduring market leaders.
Unlike traditional private equity firms, we invest with permanent capital, focusing on sustainable growth and long-term value creation rather than short-term financial engineering.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a motivated and curious M&A Intern to join our Corporate Development team in Lisbon and support Solen's expansion across Europe.
You'll gain hands-on exposure to the M&A lifecycle, from sourcing software businesses and engaging with founders to evaluating acquisition opportunities and supporting live transactions.
Working directly with experienced Corporate Development professionals, you'll take ownership of meaningful projects and develop valuable commercial and analytical skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Deal Origination: Identify, research, and screen potential B2B software acquisition targets across Europe.
- Market Research: Analyse software verticals, competitive landscapes, and attractive niche markets.
- Founder Engagement: Support outreach and relationship-building with founders, entrepreneurs, investment bankers, and advisors.
- Pipeline Management: Maintain accurate CRM records, track acquisition opportunities, and support deal progression.
- Investment Analysis: Evaluate business models, financial performance, recurring revenue, customer retention, and growth opportunities.
- Financial Modelling: Assist with valuation analyses, financial models, and investment assessments.
- Investment Materials: Prepare company profiles, market maps, investment summaries, and internal presentations.
- Transaction Support: Assist with due diligence, analyse company information, and participate in meetings with founders and advisors.
Who We're Looking For
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interest in M&A, corporate development, private equity, technology, and entrepreneurship.
- Analytical, detail-oriented, resourceful, and comfortable taking initiative.
- Familiarity with Excel and basic financial statements.
- Strong communication skills in English; additional European languages are a plus.
- High level of ownership, curiosity, and willingness to learn.
Previous experience in investment banking, private equity, corporate finance, or business development is advantageous but not required.
What You'll Gain
- Hands-on experience across real M&A transactions and acquisition opportunities.
- Direct mentorship from experienced Corporate Development professionals.
- Exposure to software investing, financial analysis, and long-term value creation.
- Meaningful responsibility within a lean, international team.
- A strong foundation for a career in M&A, private equity, or corporate development.
Solen-isms (How We Operate)
- Ownership Mindset: We own the mission. We don't wait to be told. We lead, fix, and build as if it were ours. When problems arise, we run toward them, not away.
- Benchmark to Best: We seek out excellence. We measure ourselves against the best and adapt quickly, always looking for the edge that moves us forward.
- Openly Self-Critical: Leaders go first: they surface their misses early, ask for direct feedback, and turn “game film” into better decisions and better systems.
- Disagree & Commit: Leaders disagree openly and constructively, regardless of title or tenure, because truth is how we avoid bureaucracy and benchmark to best.
- Figureitoutiveness: Embracing challenges, fostering growth, and taking initiative, leaders thrive on hard work and high failure tolerance.
- Mutual Elevation: Committed to growth, elevating teams, developing future leaders, and removing barriers to mastery and joy.
- Learn-it-alls: Learn-it-alls, not know-it-alls, embracing failure as part of growth and progress.
- Pioneering: Pioneering driven by opportunity, using first principles thinking and unbound by tradition or rules.
- Will to Win: Leaders relentlessly pursue potential, reject mediocrity, and get what they tolerate.
- Dialectical: We learn through conversation. We ask, listen, question, and evolve — valuing disagreement as a tool for alignment and deeper understanding.
- Frugality: Achieving more with less, focusing on quality, long-term value, and company-wide responsibility.
- Candor: We communicate with integrity, transparency, and respect in all conversations.
- Kaizen: Kaizen is continuous improvement as a way of life. Leaders make hundreds of small upgrades that compound, turning lessons into standards and standards into durable systems.
