The posting

Qualifications:

  • Obtain a valid Driver's license
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • These are SEASONAL positions for the Streets Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, repair, and maintain public streets and rights-of-way, including street signs, pavement markings, trees, and community relation projects.
  • Perform required labor involved in the construction and maintenance of pavement cutting, crack sealing, base repair, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, wheelchair ramp repair, tree removal, and snow removal.
  • Operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs to light and heavy equipment (backhoe, loader, chainsaws, welders, etc.). Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance of assigned equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools before and after use. Report defects or needed repairs to the lead worker or supervisor.
  • Respond to various customer service requests and report findings to lead worker or supervisor. Maintain good public relations through courteous and prompt attention to customer complaints.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative and respectful work relationships with co-workers and supervisor.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner. Complete daily work activities according to work schedules. Measure and compute.
  • Some knowledge of: equipment, materials, supplies, practices, methods, hazards, and safety precautions used in street maintenance and road construction; tree maintenance; and heavy equipment operation. Able to read, comprehend, and respond to written and verbal instruction. Have basic knowledge to operate computer word and spreadsheet programs.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects, tools, or controls. The position requires mobility. Many duties are physically demanding, requiring the movement of materials weighing 50 pounds up to 90 pounds with assistance. Movement of materials weighing 25 to 50 pounds may consume up to 30% of the work period. Duties require regular operation of light, medium and heavy equipment; use of hand tools, (jackhammer, chainsaw, weed eaters, shovels, etc.); Activity and types of duties performed require manual coordination and dexterity.
  • The majority of duties take place outside with exposure to all types of weather conditions and terrain on a year-round basis. May be exposed to confined spaces and hazardous material.
