Somerset County Public Schools is a small but mighty district recruiting elementary, middle, and high school Special Education teachers for the 2026–2027 school year, offering competitive salaries, a generous leave package, supportive leadership, and intentional systems designed to better support educators and students.

Position Summary

Somerset County Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and certified Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This role involves providing specialized instruction to students with moderate to severe disabilities, including those on the Autism spectrum. The successful candidate will report to the School Principal with program oversight from the Supervisor of Special Education. Key Responsibilities

  • Instructional Leadership: Design and implement data-driven, sequential instructional plans tailored to individual student needs across various content areas.
  • IEP Management: Lead the development, writing, and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) using the Maryland Online IEP system, ensuring strict compliance with IDEA federal and state regulations.
  • Behavioral Support: Utilize evidence-based behavioral techniques and management skills to foster a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment.
  • Case Management: Coordinate and facilitate regular IEP team meetings with parents, service providers (OT/PT/Speech), and administrators to monitor and report student progress.
  • Life Skills & Community Integration: Plan and execute Community-Based Instruction (CBI) to prepare students for transition into less structured settings and post-secondary opportunities.
  • Supervision: Direct and mentor assigned paraeducators and instructional assistants to ensure consistent support for all students.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education.
  • Certification: Must hold (or be eligible for) a Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Professional Certificate with a Special Education endorsement.
  • Specialized Training: Proven experience working with students who are moderately to severely involved; specific experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is highly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in educational technology and assistive communication devices (AAC) appropriate for students with diverse needs.
  • Assessment: Knowledge of formal and informal educational assessment techniques and the ability to interpret data for instructional adjustment.

Professional Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of professionals.
  • Deep understanding of community resources and entry-level career pathways for students with disabilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage complex documentation timelines

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
