Role Summary
Corporate Identity is a critical control point for Sophos, underpinning everything our employees do and serving as a foundation for our certification and compliance programmes.
We are looking for a hands-on Senior Identity Engineer to join our team of practitioners who manage our modern identity stack. The role spans the full identity lifecycle, from passwordless authentication and adaptive access controls to identity governance, non-human identities, and application integration.
This is a technical engineering role where you will work directly with the technologies we operate, driving the adoption of modern identity capabilities while ensuring security, scalability, and operational excellence.
What You Will Do
- Deliver identity-related projects from design through implementation and operational handover, including passwordless authentication, identity governance, and legacy technology retirement.
- Act as a subject matter expert for one or more core identity platforms, including Microsoft Entra ID, Saviynt, and Active Directory, configuring, troubleshooting, and operating these platforms directly, not just advising on them.
- Integrate enterprise applications with Microsoft Entra ID and Saviynt using standards such as SAML, OIDC, OAuth, and SCIM.
- Configure and optimise Conditional Access, authentication, and MFA policies to balance security, usability, and business requirements.
- Contribute to Sophos' Non-Human Identity (NHI) strategy, including service accounts, machine identities, secrets management, workload identities, and emerging AI agent identities.
- Analyse, troubleshoot, and resolve complex identity and authentication issues across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Stay current with developments in identity security, identity governance, privileged access management, and emerging industry standards.
- Work using Agile methodologies.
- Participate in the Identity team's out-of-hours support rota.
What You Will Bring
- Significant hands-on experience administering and engineering solutions in Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Active Directory. You've personally configured and administered these environments, not just designed them.
- Proven experience implementing and troubleshooting identity protocols, including SAML, OIDC, OAuth, and SCIM.
- Strong understanding of identity governance, access management, authentication, authorisation, and compliance controls.
- Experience integrating enterprise applications with identity providers and governance platforms.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills across cloud and hybrid identity environments.
- Understanding of identity security principles and privileged access management concepts.
- Experience with a modern Identity Governance Administration (IGA) platform, such as Saviynt, SailPoint, or similar.
- Exposure to Non-Human Identity (NHI), machine identity, workload identity, or secrets management.
- Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code experience.
- CI/CD experience using GitHub and GitHub Actions.
- Familiarity with Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions.
- Azure and Microsoft certifications.
