Substitute position, part-time

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

As a member of the teaching team, the teacher assistant helps ensure that each child’s developmental needs are met.

Substitute for Center staff and provide classroom support and assistance as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Be available to work a flexible part time schedule, sometimes on very short notice, to meet staffing requirements of the Center.

· Participate in implementing curriculum and classroom activities.

· Assist in organizing and maintaining classroom environment, equipment, and materials.

· Monitor children’s activities individually and in groups.

· Confer with other center staff regarding educational and social progress.

· Attend staff, team, and curriculum meetings, training and supervision as required.

· Help organize and attend Center parent meetings and other Center events.

· Refer concerns expressed by parents to appropriate teacher and share observations regarding parent-child interactions.

· Prepare breakfast and snacks.

· All other assigned duties.

Reports to: Center Director QUALIFICATIONS

· Demonstrated ability to understand the developmental needs of children.

· Some experience working with young children.

· Must be willing to work a flexible schedule and fill in wherever needed.

· Coursework in early childhood education desirable.

· Warm and nurturing personality.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
