SPIRIT OF MATH | ROLE PROFILE
Marketing Manager
Strategy, Performance & Department Operations
Location: Toronto, Ontario | Department: Marketing | Reports to: Vice President, Corporate Services
Position Summary
The Marketing Manager provides overall leadership, strategic direction and operational accountability for the Spirit of Math Marketing Department. The role translates organizational growth objectives into an integrated, measurable marketing strategy that supports student registrations, brand awareness, campus performance and the corporate and franchise network.
This is a hands-on management role with primary ownership of marketing planning, data and analytics, budgets, processes, systems, agency performance, people leadership and departmental execution. The Manager establishes clear priorities, controls and reporting, investigates performance issues directly, and ensures initiatives are completed to an agreed standard, on time and within budget.
Enterprise Strategy & Business Planning
Develop and own the annual enterprise marketing strategy, quarterly priorities and integrated marketing calendar aligned to registration, retention, brand and growth objectives.
Translate organizational KSOs and KPIs into measurable channel, program and campus-level plans with defined audiences, budgets, owners, milestones and expected outcomes.
Oversee corporate campus growth plans and provide a consistent planning framework for franchise marketing support; identify where local plans need intervention.
Lead market analysis, competitive assessment, audience segmentation and business cases for new programs, locations and potential international expansion.
Review strategic progress with the VP, Corporate Services and recommend changes to priorities, investment or execution based on evidence.
Marketing Data, Analytics & Performance
Establish a reliable reporting framework with clear definitions, data sources, owners, validation checks and reporting cadence across campuses and agencies.
Own the marketing performance dashboard, including leads, qualified inquiries, assessment bookings, registrations, conversion rates, acquisition cost, return on spend and campus performance against targets, where data is available.
Analyze the full inquiry-to-registration funnel to distinguish marketing effectiveness from campus follow-up, operational capacity or data-quality issues.
Personally investigate underperforming campaigns and reporting discrepancies using advertising platforms, web analytics, registration data and agency reports; direct corrective action.
Present concise monthly executive reporting covering results versus plan, spend versus budget, root causes, risks, decisions and next steps.
Build a culture of testing, learning and documented post-campaign reviews; ensure results inform future plans and resource allocation.
Processes, Systems & Controls
Design and maintain scalable marketing SOPs for requests, briefing, approvals, creative production, campaign setup, launch, monitoring, change control and closeout.
Implement a centralized work intake and project-tracking process with owners, priorities, deadlines, service expectations and escalation paths.
Establish controls for advertising budgets, campaign start/end dates, account access, brand approvals, version control and proof of completion.
Maintain effective governance of marketing platforms, assets, data permissions, vendor deliverables and documentation in coordination with IT and other departments.
Conduct regular quality and compliance reviews and remove recurring process bottlenecks without creating unnecessary approval layers.
Department Leadership & Oversight
Lead, coach and evaluate the Marketing team; clarify accountabilities and decision rights.
Set team objectives, workload priorities, operating rhythms, performance expectations and development plans; address missed commitments promptly.
Oversee execution across digital advertising, social media, content, creative, public relations, website and collateral while delegating functional ownership appropriately.
Coordinate with Campus Operations, Franchise Support, Finance, IT, Fulfillment, and executive stakeholders to resolve cross-functional dependencies.
Maintain an accurate department-wide view of initiatives, deliverables, capacity, risks and decisions so work progresses without constant executive intervention.
Budgets, Agencies & Commercial Accountability
Prepare and manage the annual marketing budget, forecasts, purchase approvals and spending controls; evaluate investments against business outcomes.
Select, onboard and oversee agencies and vendors using documented scopes, deliverables, service levels, reporting requirements and performance reviews.
Challenge agency results using independent data, ensure appropriate campaign and account controls, and intervene when spend or performance deviates from plan.
Assess make-versus-buy decisions, contract value and resource requirements; recommend reallocations supported by data.
Hands-On Problem Solving & Execution
Work directly in reporting and marketing platforms as needed to validate numbers, audit campaigns, troubleshoot issues and establish repeatable solutions.
Develop working plans, dashboards, briefs, presentations and decision papers personally when necessary to move critical initiatives forward.
Lead urgent issue resolution, including incorrect advertising settings, inconsistent campus reporting, missed deadlines and unclear ownership.
Model high standards of follow-through: identify the issue, determine root cause, assign corrective actions, verify completion and prevent recurrence.
Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Demonstrated experience leading a marketing function or team, building strategies and managing delivery across multiple channels.
Strong analytical skills with practical knowledge of campaign measurement, conversion funnels, budgets, dashboards and data quality.
Experience designing operating processes, managing projects and implementing accountability and quality controls.
Working knowledge of Google Ads, Meta advertising, web analytics and marketing/registration systems sufficient to challenge results and troubleshoot issues.
Ability to manage external agencies, communicate with senior leaders and balance strategic planning with hands-on execution.
Experience in franchise, education, multi-location or service-based organizations is an asset.
