Overview

We are seeking a Manager, Technology Equipment Interference (TEI) to lead a specialized technical team that evaluates, develops, integrates, and operationalizes technologies enabling authorized interaction with target technology environments and equipment, in support of government intelligence, investigative, and public-safety missions. This role sits within SS8's broader Tactical Intelligence capability and works closely with Mediation, Location, Monitoring, Data Intelligence, and AI teams to deliver an integrated intelligence ecosystem rather than isolated technology products.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge, operational understanding, leadership capability, and customer engagement skills — someone technically curious, mission-focused, and entrepreneurial enough to build a new capability area and move it from concept to operational solution, while operating with the judgment and discretion sensitive intelligence technologies demand.

What You'll Do

Team Leadership

• Build, lead, mentor, and develop a highly specialized multidisciplinary TEI technical team; establish technical priorities, roadmap, and performance objectives.
• Create an environment that encourages innovation, technical excellence, and disciplined execution, working closely with engineering, product, tactical solutions, and customer-facing teams — success here means standing up a world-class TEI team.

Technology & Capability Development

• Lead evaluation and development of technologies supporting authorized TEI and related tactical intelligence capabilities.
• Define technical architectures and integration requirements, overseeing prototyping, testing, and transition into supported solutions.
• Ensure TEI capabilities integrate effectively with SS8's broader intelligence platform.

Operational Integration

• Connect TEI capabilities across the SS8 portfolio: Mediation (lawful acquisition/delivery of communications and network data), Location (identifying and locating relevant devices/targets), Monitoring (authorized collection capabilities), and Data Intelligence & AI (correlation, analysis, and AI-driven prioritization).
• Deliver an integrated intelligence ecosystem — measured by successful integration of TEI into SS8's broader Tactical and Intelligence portfolio and identification of strategic technology partners.

Customer & Mission Engagement

• Engage directly with authorized government, intelligence, law-enforcement, and public-safety customers to understand operational requirements.
• Translate mission requirements into technical and product requirements; participate in demonstrations, workshops, and trials.
• Serve as a trusted technical SME supporting business-development and sales teams on complex engagements — listening carefully to operational users and translating their challenges into requirements.

Technology Partnerships

• Identify technology companies, specialist vendors, and strategic partners that could extend SS8's TEI capabilities.
• Evaluate potential technologies and lead technical due diligence for partnerships, licensing, investments, or acquisitions.
• Develop integration strategies bringing external capabilities into SS8's broader intelligence ecosystem.

Product & Technology Strategy

• Develop and maintain the TEI technology and capability roadmap; monitor developments in communications, mobile, cybersecurity, AI, and tactical intelligence technologies.
• Identify technology gaps, recommend build/buy/partner/acquire strategies, and advise senior leadership on risks and opportunities — success is defined by delivering new capabilities that address validated customer requirements, and accelerating demonstrations and deployments while building reusable rather than one-off capabilities.

Security, Legal & Compliance

• Ensure all TEI activities are conducted within applicable legal authorities, customer authorizations, export-control requirements, and SS8 governance.
• Work closely with Legal, Compliance, Security, and executive leadership when evaluating new technologies; maintain appropriate controls and promote security-by-design practices throughout the team — a non-negotiable measure of success in this role.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Significant experience in telecommunications, cybersecurity, lawful intelligence, government technology, tactical systems, or related advanced technology environments.
• Demonstrated experience leading technical or engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of modern telecommunications and IP-based communications technologies.
• Experience taking complex technical capabilities from concept/prototype through integration and operational deployment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, operational users, government customers, and senior executives — collaborative enough to work across engineering, product, sales, legal, security, and executive leadership.
• Experience operating in environments involving sensitive or restricted information.

Nice to Have

• Experience with lawful intelligence, lawful interception, intelligence platforms, or government investigative technologies.
• Understanding of mobile networks (LTE/5G), IP networking, and wireless technologies.
• Familiarity with AI/ML and its application to intelligence analysis and operational workflows.
• Experience working with U.S. and/or international government agencies, including classified or highly sensitive programs.
• Experience evaluating technology companies for partnership or acquisition.
• Advanced technical degree or equivalent specialized experience.

Compensation & Benefits

The expected base salary range for this position is $150,000 – $190,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on the candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications. This role is also eligible to participate in SS8's corporate bonus program, subject to the terms of the applicable plan. This role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from SS8's Herndon, VA office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team.
