What you’ll be doing:
Safely transport molten sulfur from refinery production units to designated offload facilities or storage terminals. Perform pre- and post-trip inspections on specialized heavy-duty tractor-trailers and insulated chemical tanker equipment. Manage loading and offloading procedures using high-pressure air compressors, heavy-duty hoses, and refinery connection couplings. Monitor trailer temperature gauges during transit to ensure the product remains in a molten liquid state. Navigate complex industrial refinery environments, strictly adhering to plant traffic patterns, speed limits, and strict safety protocols. Execute all administrative tasks flawlessly, including DOT logs, chemical manifests, bill of lading, and refinery-specific paperwork.
Requirements to be successful:
Valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record. Tanker (N) and Hazardous Materials (H) endorsements (or a combined X endorsement). Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card required prior to hire for refinery access. Minimum 1-2 years of verifiable Class A tractor-trailer driving experience. Strict commitment to safety with zero major preventable accidents or DOT compliance violations in the past 3 years. Refinery Safety Protocols: Adherence to strict personal protective equipment (PPE) standards, including flame-resistant clothing (FRC), H2S gas monitors, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently while representing Savage professionally at customer locations.
Commercial Tanker Truck Experience: Experience operating Class 8 tractor-trailers that transport bulk liquids, including crude oil, petroleum products, and chemicals.
Preferred Qualifications:
2+ years’ experience operating commercial heavy-duty transport trucks and specialized material-handling of bulk liquid tankers or chemical hauling experience. Prior experience hauling hot/molten commodities or hazardous chemical materials. Active Refinery Site Safety Orientation card (e.g., Basic Plus / Safety Council) or specific local refinery badges. Experience operating manual transmissions (10-speed or 13-speed heavy-haul setups, 18 Wheelers, Single/ Double Axel).
Some physical requirements and working conditions:
Must be comfortable wearing advanced PPE including Fire-Retardant Clothing (FRC), full-face shields, heavy-duty gloves, and a personal Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) gas monitor. Ability to climb tank ladders, walk on top of trailer catwalks, and pull/connect heavy industrial hoses (up to 50 lbs.). Willingness to work in outdoor environments with exposure to variable weather conditions and industrial refinery sounds/scents. Must be able to successfully pass a DOT physical, drug screen, and breath alcohol test, as well as a background check.
