Job Description

Stanford University Golf Course is seeking a highly motivated Auto and Equipment Mechanic to diagnose problems and maintain university vehicles and equipment, including golf course machinery. Reporting directly to the Golf Course Superintendent, this position is responsible for all phases of a repair operation, from identifying and diagnosing problems, through final testing of the repaired machine, with no direct guidance from a supervisor, taking only the most difficult problems and/or those concerning supply of materials, tools, etc., to the supervisor. The supervisor spot-checks work during progress. This is an on-site four-month temporary position that may be extended if needed.

Responsibilities

Core Duties:

  • Identify, diagnose, and repair common defects in the mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems in a variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Drive a tow truck and tow vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform maintenance operations such as pre-smog checks, changing tires, dispensing gasoline, cleaning vehicles, etc.
  • Order parts and charge out parts appropriately. May maintain parts inventory.
  • Maintain inventory records and other appropriate records.
  • Complete work order documentation
  • Handle, store and dispose of hazardous materials appropriately.
  • Adhere to safety rules.

Minimum Education and Experience

Journey level knowledge equivalent to four years’ completion in an apprentice program or a combination of equivalent education and work experience and/or five years’ work experience in the trade, may include time spent in apprentice or vocational training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Skilled in the repair of gas, diesel and electrically powered vehicles and equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety practices consistent with industry standard and practices.
  • Basic computer system knowledge for work order and time entry
  • Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment, including power tools and testing equipment.

Certificates and Licenses Required

Valid California Class C Non-commercial Driver’s License.

If driving fuel truck must acquire and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License with related endorsements.
