The posting

State Affairs is the nation’s leading news and policy intelligence platform focused on state governments. We combine nonpartisan coverage of Statehouses across the country alongside state government data and AI-native tools into a singular platform.

We inform and empower decision makers, policy professionals and citizens through our award-winning journalism and data – delivering profound insights to help our customers decode and act on state politics and policy. We’re building a category-defining business that will reshape America as we strengthen visibility into what’s happening and why at the state level.

We know we can only achieve our mission with the right people—no software, process, or playbook can replace that. This role is pivotal in making it a reality. We are looking for a proven talent acquisition professional—someone who thrives on poaching top performers from competitors, not just sifting through inbound applicants. You will own the search for the talent that will define our growth, partnering directly with leadership to build a high-impact organization.

We are hiring a Talent Acquisition Partner (Recruiter) to join our team located in Washington, DC.

As the Talent Acquisition Partner (Recruiter), you will:

  • Work directly with hiring managers to understand business priorities, team structures, and role requirements.
  • Relentlessly source and attract top-tier talent
  • Build and maintain talent intelligence: target company organization charts, compensation benchmarks, and competitive insights.
  • Manage the entire recruiting lifecycle: sourcing, screening, scheduling, interview coordination, feedback, offers, and closing.
  • Sell the opportunity—positioning our roles as career-defining opportunities for qualified talent.
  • Deliver a high-touch candidate experience that strengthens our employer brand and keeps future hires warm.
  • Ensure pipeline hygiene via our applicant tracking system (Greenhouse), ensuring data is clean, accurate, and actionable.
  • Use recruiting analytics to track funnel performance, spot trends, and optimize for speed and quality.
  • Stay ahead of hiring trends, competitive moves, and emerging talent pools.

Essential Qualifications for this position include:

  • 5+ years of professional work experience in talent acquisition
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or related field.
  • Knowledge of applicant tracking systems (Greenhouse preferred) and other tools such as LinkedIn Recruiter to support sourcing.
  • Ability to execute with detail and operate with organizational skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal, with a clear understanding of correspondence etiquette.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications for this position include:

  • Prior professional work experience conducting various talent-related operations such as onboarding
  • Prior professional work experience in a start-up organization

This is a onsite work opportunity and our teams operate from the Washington, DC office (located at L and 15th St. NW) 5 (five) days per week. State Affairs offers a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package, and a meaningful equity position to employees.

The annual salary range for this role as it is posted is $122,000 to $142,000 for candidates working from the State Affairs office in Washington, DC. The final job level and annual salary will be determined based on the education, qualification, knowledge, skills, ability, and experience of the final candidate(s), and calibrated against relevant market data and internal team equity. Benefits listed in this posting may vary depending on the nature of your employment with State Affairs.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future company sponsorship.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
