The posting

We Are Looking For:

State Street is seeking a strategic and results-oriented Head of Digital Strategy & Channels, Senior Vice President, to lead the firm's digital marketing ecosystem and core channels.

This is a senior role for a proven strategist and operator: someone who has built and run digital marketing capabilities at scale, and who can move comfortably between setting enterprise vision and rolling up their sleeves to improve channel performance. This leader will take an enterprise, State Street-wide view of our key user journeys and the distinct personas we serve across our businesses, and design digital experiences and capabilities around each business's specific growth outcomes.

The successful candidate will lead a global organization of digital strategists, UX specialists and operators to define and drive the strategic vision for State Street's digital experiences in partnership with marketing, technology, product, and design teams, creating seamless, personalized experiences that drive engagement and business growth. From a strategy standpoint, this person's focus is efficacy and maturity: every channel decision should be traceable to measurable business impact, not activity for its own sake. They will build an operating model that guides marketing programs to be deeply rooted in audience behavior, embeds a genuine test-and-learn discipline, and gives the team a real, repeatable ability to operationalize channel improvements based on what the data shows.

The role reports to the Global Chief Marketing Officer and as part of the global marketing leadership team will help architect our broader transformation into a high-performing, data-led strategic partner and growth driver for the business.

Why This Role Matters:

This leader will serve as the enterprise authority on how content, campaigns, thought leadership, and brand experiences are distributed, discovered, and experienced across all digital channels. Working closely with our data, marketing technology, digital operations teams, they will help define the right roadmap of maturity for our digital capabilities. Leveraging expertise in AI, personalization, digital strategy, content distribution, marketing analytics, and digital growth, they will transform audience journeys, strengthen discoverability, and build scalable frameworks that deliver measurable business impact. This role will position State Street at the forefront of digital marketing innovation and client engagement.

What You Will Be Responsible For:

Enterprise Digital Strategy & Maturity

  • Develop and lead State Street's enterprise digital strategy across web, search, email, marketing automation, and emerging digital channels.
  • Take an enterprise, State Street-wide view across all key user journeys and personas we serve, and design digital experiences around the distinct growth outcomes of each business we support.
  • Partner closely with the data, marketing technology and digital operations teams to define the right roadmap of digital maturity for the enterprise, sequencing investment against business priorities.
  • Serve as the firm's center of excellence for digital distribution, audience engagement, discoverability, and channel effectiveness.
  • Partner with marketing, communications, product, technology, and business teams to create integrated digital experiences and customer journeys.

Website Strategy & Digital Experience

  • Own the strategic direction, governance, and performance of State Street's websites and digital properties.
  • Ensure digital experiences support business objectives, client engagement, content consumption, and demand generation.
  • Oversee homepage strategy, information architecture, navigation, content placement, and user journey optimization.
  • Define standards for digital experiences, including what content should be published, where it should reside, and how audiences interact with it.
  • Drive ongoing improvements in usability, accessibility, personalization, and digital performance.

Search & AI Discoverability

  • Lead the firm's enterprise search strategy, including SEO, AEO, and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), to maximize discoverability across traditional search engines and AI-powered search experiences.
  • Ensure State Street's capabilities, products, thought leadership, and commercial narratives are highly discoverable wherever clients look for them.
  • Establish governance for metadata, taxonomy, site architecture, and content optimization.
  • Leverage AI, analytics, and audience insights to improve visibility, authority, engagement, and conversion.

Email & Digital Engagement

  • Oversee enterprise email marketing, marketing automation, and digital engagement capabilities.
  • Establish governance and best practices for audience segmentation, personalization, customer journeys, and campaign execution.
  • Drive improvements in engagement, conversion, and digital experience effectiveness.
  • Ensure marketing technology capabilities are scalable, efficient, and aligned with business objectives.

Growth, Testing & Optimization

  • Build an operating model in which campaigns and programs are designed from audience behavior and data, not assumption, with clear hypotheses and success measures defined up front.
  • Embed a disciplined test-and-learn approach across channels, including landing page optimization, A/B and multivariate testing, and personalization, benchmarked consistently over time.
  • Give the team a genuine, repeatable ability to operationalize channel improvements based on data, translating what is learned into standard practice rather than one-off fixes.
  • Deploy AI-driven personalization and content recommendation approaches to tailor digital experiences across audience segments.

Analytics, Efficacy & Business Impact

  • Establish performance dashboards, KPIs, and reporting frameworks across all digital channels, with a relentless focus on efficacy and measurable business impact over activity metrics.
  • Connect marketing activity to business outcomes through measurement, attribution, and audience insights.
  • Foster a culture of testing, learning, and continuous improvement across the digital organization.
  • Use data to drive investment decisions, prioritization, and digital innovation.

Leadership

  • Lead and develop a high-performing global team of channel strategists, digital engagement professionals, search specialists, product managers, and measurement experts.
  • Build digital capabilities that position State Street as a leader in digital marketing, discoverability, and client engagement.
  • Manage key digital marketing agencies, and vendor relationships to maximize effectiveness and innovation.

Qualifications:

Required

  • 15+ years of experience in digital marketing, digital strategy, web experience, search, media, or related disciplines, with a track record as both a strategist and a hands-on operator.
  • Significant experience leading enterprise digital marketing and channel organizations within financial services or another highly regulated industry.
  • Deep expertise in website strategy, digital experience, SEO, AEO/GEO, paid media, marketing automation, personalization, and analytics.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and run a test-and-learn operating model, translating audience data into operationalized channel improvements.
  • Proven success building scalable digital capabilities, governance models, and operating frameworks, including digital maturity roadmaps built in partnership with data, martech, and technology teams.
  • Experience leading global teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial mindset with the ability to connect digital investments to measurable business outcomes and efficacy.

Preferred

  • Experience leading large-scale website transformation and optimization initiatives.
  • Expertise in AI-enabled discoverability, personalization, and emerging digital engagement capabilities.
  • Experience managing or guiding enterprise marketing technology ecosystems and digital product roadmaps.
  • Strong understanding of audience acquisition, attribution, and performance marketing.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner across communications, marketing, research, and business teams to drive aligned messaging and measurable outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of content governance, editorial strategy, audience engagement, analytics, and AI-enabled content capabilities.
  • Experience working in a large, complex, global organization with multiple legal entity structures and business lines, and deep fluency in the controls that come with operating in a highly regulated industry.
  • A strong, disciplined leader and builder of diverse, collaborative teams, with a genuine commitment to elevating the skills and craft of the people they lead.
  • Ability to manage projects across multiple stakeholders, timelines, and key deliverables, with a track record of connecting the dots to inform a larger strategy while maintaining an execution-oriented mindset.
  • A hands-on leader, equally comfortable setting strategy and rolling up their sleeves to support execution.
  • Ability to bring innovative ideas on how to effectively communicate with a new generation of leaders and employees.

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
