Stone Fabricator – Handcutter

Columbus, OH | Full-Time | On-Site | $23 – $25 per hour | 4-Day Work Week

Job Summary

Stone Center, a family- and veteran-owned leader in natural stone supply and fabrication since 1952, is hiring an experienced Stone Fabricator – Handcutter for our Columbus shop. You'll shape, cut, and finish natural stone by hand, turning shop drawings into finished pieces like caps, sills, treads, fireplace surrounds, and custom architectural details. If you have experience with hand tools, polishing, or hand cutting stone and take pride in detail work, we want to talk to you.

What You'll Do

  • Hand cut, split, and dress limestone and other natural stone to size and profile using chisels, hammers, pitching tools, and small power tools
  • Grind, hone, and polish stone surfaces and edges to a finished, customer-ready look
  • Read shop drawings and templates, then measure, mark, and lay out cuts accurately
  • Shape custom pieces such as caps, sills, treads, fireplace surrounds, radius work, and architectural details
  • Check your own work for square, level, and dimension before it leaves your station
  • Repair chips and minor defects and touch up finished pieces as needed
  • Operate shop equipment such as saws, grinders, and carving tools once trained
  • Keep your work area clean and organized and follow all shop safety practices

Requirements

Experience is required for this role. You need hands-on experience in at least one of these areas:

  • Hand cutting or hand splitting stone (limestone, granite, sandstone, or similar)
  • Using hand tools such as chisels, hammers, rasps, and pitching tools on stone, masonry, or similar material
  • Grinding, honing, or polishing stone, countertops, terrazzo, or concrete

You also bring:

  • The ability to read a tape measure accurately and follow drawings or templates
  • A sharp eye for detail and pride in quality, finished work
  • The ability to lift and carry heavy material and stand for a full shift
  • A positive, respectful attitude, working independently and as part of a team

Preferred: stonemason, monument, countertop fabrication, or masonry background; experience reading shop drawings; experience with saws or other stone shop equipment.

Schedule, Pay & Benefits

Schedule: Full-time, four 10-hour days per week (3-day weekends)

  • Pay: $23 – $25 per hour, based on experience
  • 401(k) with 4% company match
