Job Description

Senior Service Manager (Recycling and Waste) - 1 Year Fixed Term Contract

  • East Suffolk Services Limited – Ufford, IP13 6ET
  • £50,908 - £55,224 per annum
  • 37 hours per week
  • Fixed Term Contract – 1 Year

Be part of a dynamic team that makes a difference.

At East Suffolk Services, we proudly deliver a wide range of essential local services that support the lives of over a quarter of a million residents and thousands of businesses across our district.

As part of our team, you'll play a leading role in shaping and developing high-quality Recycling and Waste services that our communities rely on every day.

This is more than just a management role. It's an opportunity to influence service delivery, lead operational improvements, and help create a cleaner, more sustainable future for East Suffolk.

We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Senior Service Manager to join our Recycling and Waste management team on a one-year fixed-term contract.

Your role

Reporting to the Head of Service, you will lead and support the Assistant Managers and wider operational teams, ensuring Recycling and Waste services are delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with all relevant legislation and best practice.

You will drive continuous improvement across the service, developing innovative solutions that enhance productivity, customer satisfaction and environmental outcomes. Working closely with operational teams, customers, stakeholders and partner organisations, you will help ensure high standards of service delivery while maintaining a strong focus on safety, performance and value for money.

The role includes responsibility for resource planning, operational performance, budget monitoring, workforce management and service development. You will also support the growth of commercial waste services and identify opportunities to improve profitability and efficiency.

As a senior leader within the service, you will motivate and develop teams, promote positive behaviours, and foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and excellent customer service.

What you will need

You will have significant management experience within waste management, environmental services or a related operational environment, together with a strong understanding of relevant legislation, health and safety requirements and industry best practice.

You will be an effective leader with experience managing multi-disciplinary teams, allocating resources and delivering service improvements in a complex operational setting.

Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to influence, motivate and support others while maintaining high standards of performance.

You should also have experience of financial management and budget monitoring, together with a commercial mindset and a focus on delivering value for money.

A Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) Waste and Management Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) Level 4 qualification, or substantial equivalent experience within the waste management sector is essential.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.
