As part of our team, you play a vital role in delivering energy we all rely on, and you'll make a meaningful impact in the communities where we live and work.

We are hiring a Development Engineer to lead facilities and business case development for Suncor’s In Situ growth projects, including ownership of the Design Basis Memorandum for major capital projects. This role will shape growth opportunities, drive key decisions through project stages, and integrate facilities, subsurface, execution, and commercial inputs to maximize portfolio value. Success in this role requires strong collaboration, sound technical and business judgment, and the ability to align stakeholders to advance high-impact opportunities.

What we offer:

  • Strong compensation: we offer competitive compensation, regional-based uplifts, annual bonuses, and long-term financial rewards. We also help you save for your future by offering pension programs, and savings plans with company matching
  • Benefits: utilize an employee assistance program and comprehensive company-paid health, dental, and vision benefits for you and your family to support your mental, physical, and financial well-being
  • Generous time-off: enjoy generous paid vacation time and personal time-off to recharge and maintain a healthy work-life balance
  • Talent development programs: Internal mobility, succession planning, and employee training and development programs are just a few ways we’re dedicated to your development

Minimum Requirements:

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered or eligible for registration with APEGA, with 12+ years of experience in development, engineering and/or major project roles
  • In-depth knowledge of In-Situ (SAGD) CPF facilities and infrastructure, including steam generation, water treatment, oil treating, produced gas and disposal systems, with a minimum of 5 years working directly on In Situ assets
  • Demonstrated experience leading the development of a Design Basis Memorandum (or equivalent basis of design) for a large capital project through concept selection, DBM and into FEED
  • Experience with project development and project management, including working knowledge of ADEM and D&MP processes and stage-gate decision making
  • Demonstrated experience developing business cases and financial evaluations, including capital and operating cost estimates, schedule, economic inputs and sensitivity analysis, to support investment decisions
  • Experience leading and coordinating internal and external stakeholders, including EPC contractors, to deliver successful project objectives

Don’t have all the qualifications listed? That’s ok! Apply anyway. We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the facilities and business case development for In Situ growth projects, including the Firebag expansion, Lewis and future In Situ growth opportunities
  • Own the Design Basis Memorandum (DBM) for assigned large capital projects: define and document the design basis, key assumptions, design criteria, scope boundaries and interfaces, and manage DBM revisions and change control through project stages
  • Lead multi-functional groups in the planning, evaluation and recommendation of key decisions during concept selection, DBM and FEED, and bring decisions forward to Decision Review Boards
  • Frame opportunities and develop the business case, integrating capital and operating cost, schedule, production and risk inputs into economic evaluations and investment recommendations
  • Understand and translate key execution and technical risks to inform project decisions
  • Oversee, guide and translate EPC contractor study work, and provide oversight on scope and deliverable development by external EPC contractors
  • Drive integration across the In Situ growth portfolio, including shared infrastructure, steam supply, produced gas, water and disposal, to capture synergies and avoid sub-optimization
  • Provide stakeholder management across project interfaces and functional skillsets including, but not limited to, Development, Subsurface, Execution, Operations, Process Engineering, Regulatory and Commercial

Location and other Key details:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
