Job Description

  • Support continuous improvement while maintaining strong underwriting, risk, and governance disciplines
  • Adelaide CBD location / hybrid wfh

The Fleet Underwriter performs day to day operational underwriting functions within a State Underwriting team through the underwriting and negotiating of individual policy renewals, new business and mid term policy adjustments. The role contributes within the State to the execution within the State of the Commercial Portfolio Strategy through the application of product, pricing, customer retention and acquisition strategies to deliver the targeted Insurance Trading Result (ITR) for the Product(s) in accordance with the Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA). The Underwriter in collaboration with Distribution colleagues will grow and develop key intermediary relationships, deliver exceptional customer service and facilitate multiline opportunities. The role collaborates across teams, removes blockages to performance, escalate issues and proactively look for ways to simplify and improve the underwriting process.

What you’ll do:

  • Works closely with stakeholders or brokers to understands key business drivers to provide support to mutually grow relationship and income
  • Identifies and works with relevant stakeholders or brokers to close gaps in existing relationship network
  • Drives business objectives by developing productive long-term relationships with customers/ stakeholders through rapport, influence and negotiation
  • Build relationships with the end client
  • Leads, attends and networks at Industry events/meetings/functions.

What you’ll bring:

  • Minimum of 5 years of Insurance Industry experience
  • Demonstrated ability to influence in the commercial Broker and Adviser insurance market to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes
  • Active member and involvement in appropriate industry groups
  • Understanding of relevant Insurance products, industry, market environment, reinsurance structures and customer segments
  • Underwrites at an advanced level in accordance with Risk Appetite, Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA), Underwriting Guidelines and Business License
  • Use technical product knowledge to set terms and conditions and determines their acceptability in comparison to risk appetite for each customer.
