Job Summary

The Weekend, Holiday, Evenings, Nights (WHEN) Tour Supervisor will provide hospital-wide nursing and administrative leadership during assigned off-shifts, weekends, and holidays. Reporting to the Director of Nursing/Patient Care Services, the incumbent serves as the senior on-duty administrative representative in the absence of departmental leadership, coordinates safe and effective patient care operations, oversees staffing and patient flow, responds to clinical and operational emergencies, and promotes evidence-based practice, professional development, regulatory compliance, and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Serve as the senior administrative representative on assigned off-shifts, weekends, and holidays; oversee hospital-wide operations, anticipate operational challenges, exercise sound judgment and critical thinking, and serve as the first point of contact for problem resolution.
  • Collaborate with nursing and non-nursing departmental shift leaders, physicians, medical faculty, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and hospital services.
  • Interpret and implement hospital and nursing policies and procedures; seek guidance from the Senior Administrator on Call as appropriate and provide timely, comprehensive shift reports.
  • Ensure adequate numbers of competent nursing staff by coordinating current and subsequent shift staffing based on census, patient acuity, staff competencies, safety requirements, and budget targets; collaborate with non-nursing departments on staffing and safety concerns.
  • Manage patient throughput by assessing patient volume, activity, acuity, available space, and staffing resources; facilitate timely admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Identify cost-effective staffing and operational solutions, use available resources responsibly, and support budget targets without compromising patient safety, quality of care, or outcomes.
  • Provide clinical and managerial guidance to off-shift nursing personnel, including support during high-acuity situations and emergent patient care needs.
  • Respond to clinical emergencies, patient safety concerns, and operational incidents; coordinate patient transfers and other interventions as necessary.
  • Implement the hospital Disaster Emergency Plan; coordinate emergency response and serve as incident commander until relieved by a senior administrator.
  • Address concerns and resolve conflicts involving patients, families, visitors, staff, and external parties with integrity, fairness, active listening, cultural sensitivity, and professional communication.
  • Promote nursing staff development, professional growth, and recognition through coaching, mentoring, timely and specific performance feedback, participation in performance reviews, and encouragement of professional practice.
  • Apply human resources policies, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and progressive discipline procedures consistently, in coordination with appropriate leadership and Human Resources.
  • Conduct rounds on nursing units to identify actual or potential safety risks, initiate corrective actions, and make appropriate referrals.
  • Support quality assurance and performance improvement through objective outcome data, safety monitoring, evidence-based nursing standards appropriate to specific patient populations, and initiatives to improve patient care.
  • Participate in developing, revising, and implementing nursing service policies, clinical practices, and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Encourage shared governance, unit-based councils, collaborative decision-making, positive interdisciplinary relationships, staff empowerment, and a respectful, supportive work environment that recognizes contributions to excellent patient care.
  • Promote culturally and linguistically appropriate care, patient confidentiality, HIPAA compliance, ethical nursing practice, and adherence to legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Use electronic medical records, Microsoft Office applications, and other clinical and administrative technology to support patient care, communication, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain clinical expertise and professional accountability through leadership meetings, committees, continuing education, community nursing activities, self-evaluation against professional standards, reflective practice, adaptability, and responsibility for decisions and outcomes.
  • Perform other job-related duties as operational and departmental needs require.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
