The posting

We’re an innovative multidisciplinary firm of environmental design consultants, building services engineers and lighting designers focused on delivering high-quality, award-winning building services and sustainable design within the built environment sector.

Who are we?

Thank you for asking! Kindness and curiosity are some of Atelier Ten’s core tenets.

We are a team of environmental designers and carbon strategists championing for a healthier planet by leveraging our vast, collective knowledge of sustainable spaces. We help bring beauty and efficiency to every building, because like Maybelline, not all buildings are “born with it.” We work with architects, engineers, owners, and other stakeholders to accomplish their sustainability, wellness, functionality, and visual goals. We don’t just follow the trends of the industry, we trailblaze new paths to create high performance, sustainable, and award-winning buildings.

Atelier Ten is a member company of Surbana Jurong (“SJ”), a global urban, infrastructure and managed services consulting firm based in more than 120 offices across 40 countries.

What is this role on a high level?

Let’s take a moment to see the overview of the role before we get into the nitty gritty.

We are seeking Atelier Ten San Francisco's newest full-time Environmental Designer Energy Analyst with a specialty in California’s Title 24, Part 6 Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Energy Code) to help deliver innovative, high-performance building projects. In this role, you will perform whole building energy modeling, analyze residential and/or nonresidential projects, prepare documentation for compliance with Title 24 Energy Code, develop technical deliverables, and collaborate with project teams to advance energy efficiency, decarbonization, and building performance goals. As a key member of our interdisciplinary consulting team and Energy Analysis practice, you will help clients navigate California's evolving energy code requirements and support teams in designing more energy efficient buildings.

What your day-to-day looks like?

Days at Atelier Ten are filled with a large variety of project types from offices, higher education buildings, and labs to large masterplans. We promise to keep you challenged and never bored. Here are some regular tasks you may encounter:

  • Develop energy models and compliance documentation for California Title 24 Part 6 projects using approved compliance software, supporting project teams through design, permitting, and code review processes
  • Learn our internal methodologies that follow the energy analysis protocols of ASHRAE 90.1 (and other industry standards) for new and existing building and planning projects in any location or climate zone
  • Develop shoe-box and whole building energy models in CBECC, EnergyPro and/or IES-VE to support a range of energy analyses for building design and optioneering
  • Identify and analyze net-zero energy and carbon strategies based on various metrics (i.e. carbon emissions, time of use rates, source/site, etc.)
  • Analyze building envelope, HVAC, lighting, and domestic hot water systems for compliance with California Energy Code requirements and identify cost-effective pathways to exceed minimum code performance.
  • Prepare written summaries of work and technical reports for clients or other stakeholders
  • Support senior staff to coordinate sustainability assessments, energy and thermal comfort analysis, energy benchmarking, development of climate impact mitigation strategies, perform life cycle cost analysis, etc. on building and planning projects
  • Collaborate closely with architects and design team members to make energy and carbon emissions improvement recommendations.
  • Attend site visits, project meetings and present analyses to the stakeholders
  • Working with Atelier Ten’s Energy Analysis practice leader to develop new approaches and tools to improve team efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain in-house databases and spreadsheet tools, methods and standards

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
