Equipment Assembly Technician / Machine Builder – Electrical Panel Builder

Pay: $25.00–$30.00 per hour Job Type: Full-time Department: Manufacturing / Shop Experience Level: 1–3 years preferred

Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Equipment Assembly Technician / Machine Builder. In this role, you will build specialized equipment and environmental test chambers by assembling mechanical components, wiring electrical control panels, and ensuring machines meet design specifications and quality standards.

This position is ideal for someone with a strong mechanical background who enjoys working with tools, reading blueprints and electrical schematics, troubleshooting equipment, and building custom machinery from the ground up.

The ideal candidate has experience in mechanical assembly, machine building, electrical panel wiring, or industrial equipment manufacturing. We are looking for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship, pays attention to detail, and enjoys solving technical problems in a hands-on shop environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review work orders, engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics to understand assembly requirements and verify specifications.
  • Build and assemble machinery and equipment according to drawings, technical documentation, and established procedures.
  • Install electrical components and complete point-to-point wiring of control panels using electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Assemble mechanical components using hand tools, power tools, and other shop equipment.
  • Drill, tap, and prepare parts for assembly, including laying out and marking hole locations.
  • Install piping, tubing, fixtures, and connections required for machine air and water systems.
  • Check alignment, tolerances, clearances, and fit of moving parts to ensure proper operation.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical assembly issues and make necessary adjustments.
  • Test completed equipment to verify functionality, performance, and compliance with customer specifications.
  • Operate shop equipment such as drill presses, milling machines, lathes, and cutoff saws as needed.
  • Maintain component inventory and document labor hours and materials used.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and keep the shop clean, organized, and safe.
  • Assist with technical customer questions and support continuous improvement initiatives as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, machine building, or industrial equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and assembly instructions.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and basic shop equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems, identify root causes, and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with electrical components, control panel assembly, and point-to-point wiring.
  • Ability to use measuring instruments such as calipers, tape measures, gauges, and other precision tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, follow instructions, and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of manufacturing, mechanical assembly, machine building, or equipment fabrication experience.
  • Experience building electrical control panels or wiring industrial equipment.
  • Associate degree or technical training in electrical technology, industrial maintenance, mechatronics, mechanical technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with pneumatic and water piping systems.
  • Familiarity with ASTM standards and testing specifications.
  • Experience operating machine shop equipment, including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and cutoff saws.

Education

Technical school training, an associate degree, or additional education in a related technical field is preferred. Equivalent hands-on experience in machine building, electrical panel assembly, or industrial equipment manufacturing is also valuable.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

This position works in a manufacturing shop environment and requires the ability to:

  • Stand for extended periods.
  • Bend, stoop, and work in various positions during equipment assembly.
  • Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.

Safety-toe footwear and eye protection are required. Hearing protection and respiratory protection may be necessary for certain tasks.

Why Apply?

  • Earn $25.00–$30.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
  • Work hands-on building specialized industrial equipment.
  • Apply and develop mechanical assembly and electrical wiring skills.
  • Work on a variety of technical projects rather than repetitive assembly tasks.
  • Build valuable experience in machine building, equipment testing, and troubleshooting.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
