Job Description:

The Network Strategy Consultant supports the Network Strategy Team by evaluating opportunities and developing strategies that shape the future of Southwest’s route network. They’ll analyze market trends, network performance, and growth opportunities to develop business cases and recommendations for airports, cities, and future domestic and international service. They’ll partner across Network Planning, Commercial and Operational Teams, and Airport Affairs to assess risks, identify opportunities, and support strategic decision‑making. The Network Strategy Consultant leverages strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills to influence network investments, support long‑term growth, and enhance Southwest’s competitive position.

Responsibilities

  • Support analysis regarding Southwest's network in order to create network strategies influencing the direction of the Southwest network 1.5-15 years in the future
  • Assist in the development of strategic and tactical domestic and international commercial plans to enhance the Southwest network
  • Assist in maintaining the Network Portfolio and recommends changes to Senior Leadership
  • Assist in completing the 3 year and long-term Network Plans (Work Plan)
  • Assist in domestic and international new city evaluations
  • Assist in performing high level forecasting for new cities as well as overall large scale network changes
  • Develop and maintain knowledge base for Southwest's domestic and international markets, including but not limited to past performance trends, future outlook, and industry capacity and demand changes
  • Initiate, lead, and complete value-added Team projects in accurate/timely manner with ability to meet needs of direct Leader
  • Manage external relationships with airport and tourism authorities for offline domestic and international cities
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits
  • Ability to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
  • Ability to collect, organize, visualize and assimilate data including turning raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented programming languages and visualization software
  • Ability to understand and apply information to contribute to the organizations strategic plan
  • Ability to come up with a number of ideas about a topic (the number of ideas is important, not their quality, correctness, or creativity)
  • Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events)
  • Ability to come up with unusual or clever ideas about a given topic or situation, or to develop creative ways to solve a problem

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • Advanced level experience, expansive and far-reaching knowledge in:Analyzing airline performance in a strategic/commercial planning/ operational planning organization (e.g. Revenue Management, Network Planning, Ops Planning Data Science, Strategic Planning, Financial Planning & Analysis, etc.) Understanding commercial and operational performance metrics and targets within the aviation or transportation industry Network design strategies, location and staffing constraints , and how to translate operational and commercial goals into long term network strategies
  • Preferred: Experience with Tableau, Alteryx, SQL, or mobility data

  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications

  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines

Pay & Benefits

  • Competitive market salary from $108,700 per year to $120,800 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the Company.
