The posting

Sword is the trusted partner for critical technology. We deliver the operational resilience and practical innovation that are essential for the most demanding enterprise and critical national infrastructure environments. By modernising legacy systems and securing daily operations, our expert teams help vital organisations lower risk, protect operations, and grow safely.

Join Sword and develop your career as part of a talented, collaborative team that delivers real-world impact and meaningful outcomes for our customers.

About the role:

As a Sales Lead, you will play a pivotal role in driving commercial growth and shaping how Sword positions, sells and scales its Engineering, Subsurface and Enterprise Data solutions and services across the Energy and Critical National Infrastructure sectors.

As Sword strengthens its Data, Analytics, AI and Automation capabilities, you will develop new customer relationships, identify commercial opportunities and translate customer challenges into compelling, outcomes-driven propositions. Working closely with technical specialists, delivery teams and business leaders, you will combine hands-on business development with commercial insight, pre-sales coordination and marketing engagement.

This is an opportunity for an ambitious sales & marketing professional to take the next step in their career and contribute to the direction and growth of a key business unit.

As the Sales Lead, you will:

  • Identify, develop and convert new business opportunities across Engineering, Subsurface and Enterprise Data services.
  • Build and manage a qualified sales pipeline, progressing opportunities from initial engagement to contract award.
  • Develop trusted relationships with new and existing customers across Energy and Critical National Infrastructure.
  • Support the development and execution of go-to-market plans for Engineering, Subsurface and Enterprise Data offerings.
  • Shape compelling commercial propositions that align customer outcomes with deliverable Sword capabilities.
  • Contribute to discovery workshops, customer presentations, proposals, tenders and commercial negotiations.
  • Support appropriate pricing, commercial governance and handover of successful opportunities to delivery teams.
  • Deliver against agreed sales and revenue objectives, maintaining accurate forecasts and opportunity reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing accounts through additional services and cross-selling.
  • Understand customer priorities and translate business challenges into relevant service propositions.
  • Monitor customer needs, market developments and competitor activity to identify emerging opportunities.
  • Collaborate with business unit leadership to refine service propositions and identify new routes to market.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience selling into the Energy, Oil & Gas, Renewables or Critical National Infrastructure sectors, with a strong understanding of the market and customer landscape.
  • Proven ability to identify, develop and convert new business opportunities while building and maintaining lasting customer relationships.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with experience managing sales pipelines, revenue targets, forecasting and the end-to-end sales lifecycle.
  • Ability to understand customer business challenges, identify commercial opportunities and develop compelling, outcomes-driven value propositions.
  • Confidence engaging with senior business and technical stakeholders, influencing decision-makers and developing trusted customer relationships.
  • Experience leading or contributing to proposals, presentations, tenders and commercial negotiations.
  • An understanding of data management, engineering information, analytics, AI, automation or wider digital transformation solutions.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and relationship management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical, delivery and commercial teams.
  • A proactive, commercially driven approach, with the ambition to develop new markets, expand customer relationships and achieve revenue growth.

It would be great if you also had:

  • Experience selling Engineering, Subsurface or Enterprise Data and Information Management solutions or services.
  • Experience developing and executing go-to-market strategies, commercial propositions or new service offerings.
  • An established network of customer relationships and industry contacts within the Energy sector.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
