The posting

The eScience Center at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) develops and operates large-scale IT infrastructure dedicated to research in all fields. The center is a leading national provider of supercomputing resources and facilities, often provided in close collaboration with other Danish universities.

Our mission is to support research via the development of advanced IT infrastructure and by providing support and expertise to researchers. The key areas of the center are High Performance Computing (HPC), Cloud Services, Data Analytics, and Data Management Services. We assist a large research community, educational and government institutions, as well as commercial companies. The center has developed a user-friendly and advanced private cloud system called UCloud, which is the foundation for the DeiC national system for interactive HPC and cloud computing.

We continuously tackle new technological challenges as part of our ongoing systems development. The SDU eScience Center offers a research-like environment where we encourage the study of innovative solutions and personal growth. We firmly believe in open-source and web technology as means to reach our goals.

We are currently looking to fill a position within the infrastructure team. We are looking for candidates with experience in Linux systems administration and a strong desire and ability to learn. The successful candidate will work closely with the current senior systems administrator, who has a long-time expertise in scientific research, programming, and Linux systems administration.

While this position does offer flexibility and the possibility of remote work, the candidate is expected to be on-site in Odense the majority of the time.

  • Automated deployment (e.g. via Ansible)
  • Advanced networking (ethernet and infiniband)
  • Enterprise storage systems
  • Cloud computing
  • Systems development and integration

Experience in at least two of the above areas is required, and candidates with previous experience in high-performance computing, Linux systems administration, and Kubernetes will be strongly preferred.

Tasks under the infrastructure team include, but are not limited to, configuration of hardware, network, and software; automated deployment using Ansible; configuration of virtualized and container-based environments, such as Kubernetes; operating and maintaining distributed storage systems, such as Ceph WekaIO, and Quantum ActiveScale; configuration of Linux systems and common services.

Required qualifications:

  • Proven experience in at least two of the areas in the job description.
  • Strong background in Linux systems.
  • Programming skills (e.g. in Go, Python, bash, …).
  • Proven ability to work productively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team balancing divergent objectives involving research, code development, systems administration, and consulting with scientists.

Other relevant qualifications (not required):

  • MSc or PhD in a relevant field of science or engineering.
  • Experience with common DevOps practices (such as Git and GitHub, continuous integration and deployment, software documentation).

Condition of Employment

The starting date for the job is as soon as possible, and it will be agreed upon with the successful candidates. Appointments are for full-time positions for a limited time period of at least 1 year based on the candidate’s profile with the possibility of extension.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
