Our challenge:
We are seeking an experienced OpenText ALM Octane Engineer to administer, configure, and support OpenText ALM Octane across enterprise software development and delivery teams. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing workspaces, releases, pipelines, ALM Octane APIs, Jira integrations, and legacy ALM migrations. The successful candidate will collaborate with engineering, QA, DevOps, product, and project management teams to establish scalable application lifecycle management processes, improve release visibility, and support integration across development and delivery tools.
Additional Information*
The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Charlotte, NC is $90k - $100k/year & benefits (see below)
The Role
Responsibilities:
- Administer and configure OpenText ALM Octane environments, workspaces, teams, users, roles, permissions, and shared settings.
- Design and maintain workspace structures, products, teams, custom fields, workflows, rules, layouts, and business processes.
- Configure and manage: Releases and milestones, Backlogs and requirements, Epics, features, and user stories, Quality and testing workflows, Defects and defect lifecycles, Risks, dependencies, and dashboards
- Establish and maintain release-management processes within Octane.
- Configure and support Octane pipelines, deployment automation, quality gates, and integration with CI/CD tools.
- Develop and maintain integrations using ALM Octane REST APIs.
- Create API-based automation for data synchronization, reporting, administration, and bulk updates.
- Integrate OpenText ALM Octane with Jira and support Octane–Jira synchronization for requirements, defects, work items, statuses, comments, and attachments.
- Monitor synchronization jobs, troubleshoot integration failures, and resolve data-mapping and connectivity issues.
- Plan and execute migration of legacy Micro Focus/HP ALM or Quality Center data to OpenText ALM Octane.
- Assess legacy ALM data structures, workflows, fields, users, projects, test assets, and historical records.
- Develop migration mappings, transformation rules, validation procedures, and reconciliation reports.
- Support data cleansing, duplicate resolution, archival decisions, and post-migration verification.
- Define and enforce governance standards for workspace configuration, naming conventions, workflows, permissions, and data quality.
- Create dashboards, reports, queries, and metrics to support project, quality, release, and executive reporting.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for Octane users and integrated systems.
- Coordinate with OpenText support and internal infrastructure teams when resolving platform or integration issues.
- Develop administration guides, integration documentation, migration runbooks, and user procedures.
- Support platform upgrades, patches, configuration changes, backup procedures, and environment refreshes.
- Train users and administrators on OpenText ALM Octane capabilities and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with security, audit, access-control, and change-management requirements.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in application lifecycle management, quality engineering platforms, DevOps tooling, or enterprise application administration.
- Strong hands-on experience with OpenText ALM Octane administration and configuration.
- Experience managing Octane workspaces, users, teams, roles, permissions, workflows, custom fields, and shared settings.
- Experience configuring releases, milestones, pipelines, backlogs, defects, tests, and quality processes.
- Strong knowledge of ALM Octane REST APIs and API authentication methods.
- Experience developing scripts or automation using Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, or similar technologies.
- Hands-on experience integrating Octane with Jira or other enterprise work-management platforms.
- Experience with data mapping, synchronization rules, integration monitoring, and error handling.
- Experience migrating data from legacy ALM/Quality Center environments to OpenText ALM Octane.
- Strong understanding of software development, testing, defect management, and release-management processes.
- Experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred, but not required:
- Experience integrating Octane with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Azure DevOps, or Harness.
- Familiarity with OpenText ALM Octane pipeline configuration and deployment integrations.
- Experience with Octane event handlers, webhooks, integration services, or middleware platforms.
- Knowledge of SQL and database querying for data validation, reporting, and migration analysis.
- Experience with enterprise integration tools such as MuleSoft, Boomi, or similar platforms.
