About the Role

The Food Service Worker at Plainview PEM Jr. High School plays a vital role in ensuring that students receive nutritious and appealing meals in a safe and welcoming environment. This position involves preparing, serving, and maintaining food service areas in compliance with health and safety standards. The role requires close collaboration with kitchen staff and school personnel to support efficient meal service during breakfast and lunch periods. The Food Service Worker contributes to the overall well-being of students by promoting healthy eating habits and maintaining cleanliness throughout the food service process. Ultimately, this position supports the school's mission to provide a positive and nourishing experience for all students.

Job Responsibilities

Prepare and serve meals and snacks according to established menus and portion sizes.Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of food preparation and serving areas in compliance with health regulations.Assist in receiving, storing, and organizing food supplies and inventory.Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently while adhering to food safety guidelines.Engage courteously with students and staff, ensuring a positive dining experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to understand and communicate effectively in English.Demonstrated manual dexterity and ability to perform repetitive tasks.Capability to stand for extended periods during meal service.Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitization practices.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in a food service or cafeteria environment.Certification in food handling or safety (e.g., ServSafe).Familiarity with school nutrition programs and regulations.

Skills

The required skills such as understanding and speaking English are essential for clear communication with team members and students, ensuring instructions and safety protocols are followed accurately. Manual dexterity is used daily to handle food items, utensils, and equipment efficiently and safely. The ability to stand for long periods is necessary to maintain consistent service during busy meal times without compromising quality or safety. Knowledge of sanitization practices is critical to uphold health standards and prevent contamination in food preparation and serving areas. Preferred skills like food safety certification enhance the worker's ability to implement best practices and contribute to a safe dining environment.

* 1 year of previous experience in a similar role with an associate degree in hospitality/dietetics preferred * Ability to multi-task and ajust priorities as required * Exceptional organizational skills * Excellent communication (oral and written) skills. * Must have Serv/Safe certification * Previous experience managing food and labor costs * Experience managing a staff * Proficient computer skills in MS Office and other platforms * Catering experience, a plus * Successfully pass a criminal background check
