At Co-op Academy Brierley, we are looking for a proactive, empathetic, and organised Attendance and Family Engagement Officer to join our dedicated Pastoral Team. In this role, you will be the key link between our school, our students, and their homes driving positive engagement, removing barriers to education, and improving attendance across the academy.
Purpose of the Role
Your primary mission is to promote high levels of attendance and engagement across the academy. You will support our Pastoral and Senior Leadership Teams by:

- Issuing routine correspondence to parents and carers in line with the academy's attendance strategy.
- Implementing target initiatives that help students and their families re-engage with education.
What You Will Be Doing Day-to-Day
As our Attendance Officer, your key responsibilities will include:
- Direct Family Engagement: Communicating directly with parents and carers via telephone, in-person meetings, and home visits to encourage attendance and address lateness or persistent absence.
- Data Management & Analysis: Inputting precise registration data into school systems (such as Arbor), monitoring attendance trends, and providing data reports to senior leaders.
- Intervention & Support: Organising school attendance panels, setting attendance targets, and establishing parenting contracts where required.
- Legal & Policy Guidance: Advising parents on statutory legal processes when pupils become persistently absent, adhering to Trust and school policy.
- Multi-Agency & Safeguarding Collaboration: Partnering with pastoral colleagues, social services, health professionals, and local authority teams to safeguard students and address wider family needs.
Your Impact at a Glance
As our Attendance Officer, you will:
- Build Relationships: Work directly with parents, carers, and students via telephone, in-person meetings, and home visits to encourage consistent attendance.
- Analyse & Act: Maintain precise attendance records, spot trends early, and implement targeted support strategies alongside senior leaders.
- Problem Solve: Help families identify and remove root barriers to attendance, creating personalised action plans and parenting contracts where needed.
- Collaborate: Partner with multi-agency teams, health services, and local authority professionals to safeguard and support our students.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a resilient, self-motivated problem-solver who brings:
- Qualifications: Educated to NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent experience), including GCSE English and Maths (grades 9–4 / A*–C).
- Technical Skills: Experience with administration, record-keeping, Google Docs/Sheets, and attendance databases (working knowledge of Arbor is a bonus!).
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to connect with diverse families and professionals.
- Mobility: A full driving licence and access to your own transport for home visits.
- Values: A firm commitment to child safeguarding, equal opportunities, and our Ways of Being Co-op: Do what matters most | Be yourself, always | Show you care | Succeed together.
